I just donated to @spencerpratt for Los Angeles Mayor. I moved from Northern California to Los Angeles in 2013 for college. Over the years, I have been blessed to lived in numerous parts of LA, from Westchester to Downtown LA to East Hollywood. When I started distance running around LA (Koreatown and Hollywood primarily), I witnessed first-hand the disrepair the city had fallen into. Homeless, and sometimes dangerous, drug addicts and tents on nearly every street I ran on. Since I started running in 2017, it has only become worse. I realized things were truly wrong when my friend was victim of an attempted carjacking at "gunpoint" (the perps used a blacked out airsoft gun) in his own gated condominium parking garage in Koreatown. Luckily he's a BADASS and fought them off in hand-to-hand combat, but imagine if there were your wife, mom, or your grandparents. And another person around the same time told me about how he and his girlfriend were stopped at gunpoint on Melrose for their valuables. Again, imagine if that confrontation had taken a turn for the worse. That said, my lived experience tells me that Los Angeles is in a bad place. So, last night, I watched Spencer Pratt debate two incumbent, career politicians. He was a breath of fresh air and inspired me. Public safety and common sense were consistent themes whenever he spoke. And he provided detailed solutions that shows that he isn't an ideologue full of platitudes, but that he is an Angeleno on the ground listening to everyday people and their concerns. And just as important as the issues, was how I felt INSPIRED! Seeing a man who lost it all in the LA's Palisades fire deciding to not pack up and move to Nashville or Austin and instead go ALL IN on fighting for Los Angeles. That's bravery. That's someone I will go to bat for. It's clear to me that our city is at a crossroads and we have the opportunity to embark in a bold, new direction. We have the trappings to build the GREATEST CITY in the world and I believe it's possible. Mayor Pratt is that bold, new direction that will lead us to build the next incredible chapter in the story of Los Angeles. With all that said, if you haven't made up your mind or are considering whether to vote, this is your sign. VOTE SPENCER PRATT FOR MAYOR.

Why I voted Pratt 🧵: I’m a Dem & a reluctant Pratt voter. Early on he addressed the trash issue. At that time others were shaping their platforms. One wanted to be a “Night Mayor”, another advocated for more 🚲 lanes. He got my attention. Next he talked about animal abuse. (1/7)

I truly hope Spencer Pratt can do something about street vendors. We don’t want them. We want proper brick and mortar. We accepted the food trucks. With a promise that they were regulated by the LA County Health Department. Now it’s tents everywhere and we demand this be stopped!

As a Democrat, I can admit I’ve been voting wrong. Look what Mayor Karen Bass has allowed to happen to Hollywood Boulevard. It’s not only disgusting, it’s an embarrassment. It’s much worse than the picture depicts.

Overall retrospective on The Enhanced Games: There are a few thoughts here to break down. 1) The athletes were so grateful to participate. They made so much money to be there, some $1M+ to participate. For them that was a new lease on life. For an athlete who is past their prime to be able to compete again, actually get paid, have support, they could not have been happier. 2) The athletes hitting PBs (personal bests) was actually interesting and a good to see. But who cares, right? What we want to see is WRs (world records) right? Sort of. The athletes they got were mostly all past their prime. The pool they had to choose from had to be willing to take the enhancement drugs, be excommunicated from the traditional sports orgs for participating, have needed money, etc. So basically they’re not the best of the best athletes that are enhancing (at least publicly in this event). Not jabs, reality of getting older in sports. And even then, many of them were able to perform the best they ever did in their lives with the enhancement. That’s actually a huge win and very cool. And when you watched the interviews they’re honestly saying they FEEL the best they’ve ever felt. So good for them. This is likely why several of the natural athletes outperformed the enhanced ones. Because those athletes were in their prime and training for the larger events. They were clean. Of course the actual question remains: if you were to give an athlete in their PRIME these enhancements, how much better could the best become? 3) The Enhanced Games seems to be angling for some sort of subscription based supplement company model or something like that. In one of the interviews one of the organizers mentioned something like they’re using the event to collect data and want to sell supplements. So that seems to be the larger play: show people how drugs can improve their life, sell the drugs. 4) The event was clearly using science as the main patina to promote their larger business agenda. TLDR: It was an interesting event. The athletes were over the moon grateful and excited to get paid (a lot). The organizers are trying to likely use this to promote some sort of supplement company. They got to expose the world to their drugs they’re trying to sell. Athletes got to hit PBs and feel great and play their sports again. It was overall a cool thing.

Quick anecdote. I went by the mall in Orange County yesterday and I’m not kidding you I saw thousands of people at the mall. It was completely packed. At least 150+ in one store (Aritzia) buying clothes, the line for the dressing room was at least 30 deep Louis Vuitton was full, Tiffany’s full, Chanel, Gucci, Hermes, Nordstrom’s…all full Absolutely no recession anywhere to be seen at the mall yesterday Sidenote, it seemed like every 5th car in the parking lot was a Tesla The economy is completely split in two in my opinion
Spencer Barber@spencertbarber

The economy is splitting in two. Yesterday I toured a new gym in town charging $500/month. They offer blood work, recovery, and concierge-style fitness, but most people are really paying for exclusivity. They haven’t even opened yet and they’re already 25% sold out. Later that same day, I talked to a family friend who has owned restaurant chains for 25 years. He told me they are seeing the highest rate of declined credit cards at the register they’ve ever seen. Higher than 2008.

@KarenBassLA Ma’am, the city has become a dump under your leadership. My neighbors have stopped going into LA proper, and meetings I once attended in LA have “coincidentally” gone remote. Every time I drive into town to visit USC, I am shocked with how far gone you have let it get.

No matter where you are, no matter who you're voting for, really, you come together because we know we can't do the things we need to do alone. We need to do them together." This has always been the driving force of the iconic Dolores Mission, and it's the idea that has driven my whole life.
