@Coach_Yac Bet they don’t pay him top 10 center money though since that’s double what he makes now

There’s a pretty good chance the 49ers will give Jake Brendel a contract extension per: @MaioccoNBCS

@CoachBroker I guess maybe Kingsley cuz he can play LG, but he’s trash at tackle. Paul and Rosengarten are tackles only, not sure how much better they were than McKivitz last season, if at all.

Would the 49ers be better off if they had drafted Roger Rosengarten, Patrick Paul, or Kingsley Suamataia instead of Ricky Pearsall? They were all drafted after Ricky Pearsall in 2024.

@SulligentHUB Banks was a big reach over the consensus IOL guys like Quinn Meinerz and Creed Humphrey - not sure I’d put his pick in the win column

"The 49ers 2021 draft was awful!" I've seen this get lumped in with 2022 and 2023. The Trey Lance pick was turrible. Bad. Awful. Outside of that, they picked Aaron Banks who left and was paid top-5 guard money - at the time. Talanoa Hufanga left after being an all-pro and was signed as a top-10 paid safety, at the time. Deommodore Lenoir was given a big 2nd contract by the organization - one many of the same people lauded at the time because they finally got ahead of a contract negotiation and signing for value. 3 big-time 2nd contract guys picked in the 2nd, 5th and 5th rounds - all players who contributed big-time significant snaps on a team that went to 2 NFCCG's and a SB while they were playing. 2 were let go, not because of lack of talent, but because there were too many mouths to feed because the team had so much talent. Let's not revisionist this stuff.

@thefarbod The last playoff spot could come down to Wash vs SF - why help Washington by letting Aiyuk go thru training camp with them?

@JamesSurowiecki Because there is zero chance someone trades for him. They gain nothing by keeping it. It makes them look petty and vindictive to other players and agents. It’s also a distraction.

Can someone explain the concept of a "late riser" in the draft? Did he improve at football between January and April?

@grantcohn Not quite - Jer’Zhan Newton was higher than DeJean by two spots on the premier consensus board, and he’s been a disappointment #gid=0" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u…

Yes, I do believe a % of this fan base would rather the team was terrible every year and got A grades every draft. I absolutely believe that. Just as long as THEY FOLLOW THE MOCK DRAFT CONSENSUS. There should be a banner for that, totally.
Jeffrey K. Lyles@LylesMovieFiles

@timkawakami Makes me wonder if some fans would prefer the team was consistently south of 5 wins every season just to get A+ draft grades instead of being in the playoff mix every year. Harbaugh benefitted from those great drafts yet only produced three strong years.

The 49ers had good drafts in 2024 and 2025 and nobody talks about it. They were not top tier but they were really solid: 2024 - Pearsall/Green/Puni/Mustapha/Bethune 2025 - Mykel/Alfred/CJ/Sigle 4-5 players per draft who got significant play time, with 7 starters. Give 2026 time

@DannyG_49 I’m curious if the Niners really have a “board” in the traditional sense - like was Jake Moody really in the top 100 on their board back in the day?

My take is this.. consensus big boards you find online are general guidelines for the fans. If there’s a massive disparity between the pick and consensus then I’ll ask questions, but I’m not sweating most variances. That’s silly. Team boards are tailored toward their schemes and needs. Teams differ between each other, nevermind online consensus. If I have a criticism it’s going to be whether or not they appeared to fill their needs with guys that can contribute.
Coach Yac 🗣@Coach_Yac

John Lynch was asked about them reaching for draft picks in the past couple of years according to the consensus: “I appreciate that you think that, it depends on whose consensus. We’ve got consensus in this building. That’s the consensus I care about.”

@WC57257 @JavierVeg_ @BackcountryFam Warner, Bosa, Williams, Kittle, McCaffrey, Lenoir, Purdy, Deebo, Aiyuk, Armstead, Greenlaw (I’m sure I’m missing a few) are all core pieces to this run that have had 2-plus contracts. You need core guys and they don’t have young players like that to invest in.

I don’t understand their process this draft, This feels like the moody draft bc they won a playoff game vs the Eagles. They keep drafting back ups- instead of drafting potential starters. Draft high floor type of players. They are banking on the 25 draft still

Everyone always brings up Monica Seles but is Rod Laver actually the biggest “what if” in tennis history? He missed 5 full prime years (1963-67) because he turned pro & couldn’t participate in Grand slams. How many majors does he win without the old tour structure in play?

@TonyPepps @PatrickMcEnroe Wrong. College sports are about more than winning besides football and men's basketball and maybe a few more. No one gives two fucks who wins the tennis championship.

Just re checked the numbers—ACC + SEC men’s team finals: 24 singles players… 3 Americans…HELLO??!! That’s a system that’s lost its balance. College sports used to DEVELOP American athletes. Now it’s short-term wins, global recruiting, and no structure. If American players don’t have this pathway anymore, where do they go? I’ll be talking about it tonight on Newsmax with Greg Kelly (9:40pm ET).

@Ninercast @grantcohn Seems they’re all in for this season - not sure how much drafting a new LT would move the needle for this season. Lots of college tackles have bombed at guard recently - Jordan Morgan and Anthony Belton in Green Bay for example

There were 72 players in the top 100 of the consensus board who did enough testing to qualify for RAS. Roughly 82% posted an RAS of 8 or higher. The "Draft good football players, not good athletes" crowd has it backward. The best athletes tend to also be the best players.

Don’t get me wrong, I think Dexter Lawrence is still massively underrated by the public who only look at box scores, but when you’re getting the number 10 pick in a draft for a player entering his age 29 season who wants a massive contract? That’s a win all day every day.
