I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree, And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made; Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee, And live alone in the bee-loud glade. #YeatsDay @sligotourism @TourismIreland

🚨 Breaking Barriers: Enhancing Cancer Care for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities 🚨 📢 Did you know that people with intellectual disabilities (ID) are more likely to be diagnosed with stage IV breast and colorectal cancer compared to those without ID? Research highlights diagnostic delays, leading to poorer outcomes and higher mortality rates—yet this remains an under-researched and overlooked issue.* 📍 Join us for this important conference—the first of its kind in Ireland and internationally—as we tackle the urgent need for equitable cancer care for individuals with intellectual disabilities. 📅 Wednesday, 14th May 2025 📍 School of Nursing and Midwifery, 24 D’Olier Street, Dublin 🔍 What to expect: ✅ The epidemiology of cancer in people with intellectual disabilities ✅ Screening, health surveillance & early detection ✅ Ethics, advocacy & patient and public involvement (PPI) ✅ Policy, practice & reasonable adjustments in cancer settings 💡 PPI is at the heart of everything we do. Two women with lived experience of intellectual disability will provide accessible summaries after each keynote and expert speaker, ensuring that this event is inclusive, engaging, and meaningful for all. This must-attend event will bring together people with ID, their families, carers, national & international experts, healthcare professionals, NGOs, and policymakers. Let’s raise awareness, share knowledge, and work towards real change in cancer care. 🔗 Register now: eventbrite.ie/e/enhancing-ca… *Ref - Late stage diagnosis - Mahar, A.L., Biggs, K., Hansford, R.L., Derksen, S., Griffiths, R., Enns, J.E., Dawe, D.E., Hallet, J., Kristjanson, M., Decker, K. and Cobigo, V., 2024. Exciting news 🎉 We can officially announce that the @hrbireland has awarded €1.75 million to continue supporting the Intellectual Disability Supplement to the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (@IdsTilda). This funding will enable crucial research into the ageing experiences of individuals with intellectual disabilities, paving the way for data that will inform policies and practices to better support this community. Led by Professor Mary McCarron (@MccarrmMary) at the School of Nursing & Midwifery (@TCD_SNM), Trinity College Dublin (@tcddublin). IDS-TILDA has been a trailblazer in understanding health inequities faced by adults with intellectual disabilities. With this new funding, the team will explore new areas such as assisted decision-making, employment, women’s health, relationships, autism, and more. IDS-TILDA remains a global leader in its field, and its work continues to drive positive change, improving the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities as they age. 🔗 Read the full article here - tcd.ie/news_events/to… #HealthResearch #IntellectualDisability #Ageing #IDS_TILDA #ResearchImpact @EimMcGlinchey @EilishBurke15 @ODMair1 @mcmahonm44 @Juliette_OConn @MartineSmith4 @KevMacGP @Frances__OBrien @SPKennelly
