Calling this an “illegal war” is a political slogan, not a legal fact. Under Article 51 of the UN Charter, countries have the right to act in self-defence when facing attacks from hostile groups or states, which is the legal justification the US and Israel cite, just as the international community accepted similar reasoning in conflicts like Kosovo and Afghanistan. The use of UK air bases isn’t some secret backing either, the UK and US have long-standing defence agreements allowing American operations from bases such as RAF Akrotiri, which successive UK governments have approved under NATO and bilateral defence arrangements. Claims about “over 1000 civilians dead” are also being presented without attribution, and in active conflicts casualty figures are frequently disputed and revised once independent verification happens, something we’ve seen repeatedly in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Gaza. As for the idea that this somehow triggers inevitable global economic collapse, history shows regional conflicts rarely produce sustained worldwide economic fallout unless major powers enter direct confrontation, and markets usually stabilise quickly. Finally, blaming Nigel Farage or even Donald Trump for operational decisions taken by sovereign states in the Middle East is simply political theatre. Strip away the rhetoric and what’s left are unverified numbers, assumptions about legality that haven’t been ruled on, and an attempt to attach responsibility to political opponents who don’t control those military decisions.
