Even if we set everything else aside, President Trump presented incontrovertible evidence that the FBI was operating as a shadow government, and that intelligence agencies were concealing critical information from the president, all in an effort to undermine Trump and, in the process, benefit China. You do not have to embrace a grand conspiracy theory to recognize that the people responsible, some of whom are named in the documents, should have faced immediate accountability. Yet nothing happened while Trump was delivering his speech, nothing happened afterward, and nothing is likely ever to happen. Within days, this will fade from the headlines with zero consequences for those involved.
