I've written a lot in my career about how to get into the industry and one of the topics that came up recently in a server I'm in was how to get into blue team and the industry in 2026, so I pulled together resources and pushed out a blog post to help folks blog.zsec.uk/ltr101-getting… if you find it valuable or think others will, please share it!

Our first fully committed sponsor is @ZephrFish. Long time supporter as a speaker and now a sponsor as well. Andy would like everyone to know about his Malwareless Adversarial Emulation training course lms.zsec.red We may be biased, but we reckon it is top quality.

If youre looking to get into pentesting there are some good tips here. Also an insight into what red teaming is really like. Useful watch for those with their eyes set on those areas.

My @BSidesLondon talk on how to get a job as a security consultant (pen tester). I was super nervous giving this talk, I wanted to try and help others get into the industry with tips. Thanks Bsides London and @Ministraitor team for recording. youtu.be/VM6WKk0MqNM

@CyberRacheal I used all those and some others like Immersive labs. Attack IQ etc. Also went to lots of conferences meetups, watched webinars to learn directly from people. Had no certs when I got my job in the industry.

Hydra is free. Nmap is free. OpenVAS is free. Kali Linux is free. Wireshark is free. Portswigger is Free. Burp Suite is free. Metasploit is free John the Ripper is free. OSINT Framework is free. Shodan (basic tier) is free. TryHackMe & Hack The Box (basic tiers) are free. You claim you want to learn cybersecurity yet you give excuses about resources. Nothing has to be perfect. Not a fancy certification to begin. Not a $1,000 course to practice. Or even the “perfect” setup. All you need is your laptop, phone, an internet connection, and the decision to start today. Every day you delay, someone else is learning, practicing, and moving closer to the career you say you want. Stop waiting for the “right time.” Stop blaming the lack of resources. Stop making excuses. Start now. Learn now. Improve now. Looking for a mentor when you have done nothing is a waste of time.

This is a good example of why we dont carry on doing things a certain way just because we've been doing it that way for a long time. Circumstances change. What once was safe enough might not be now. youtu.be/XNMHUifKce8?si…

Certifications don’t get ignored But weak understanding gets exposed during interviews. Be honest? Have you been in an interview and felt this before?
