Reporter: "You said there would be no pause on tariffs, but today there is one. How can people believe your words today?" Trump: "You have to be flexible," followed by a story that made absolutely no sense.

THIS IS AN EMERGENCY. Mediazona is struggling. We’ve tracked 100K Russian casualties in Ukraine. Covered political prisoners repression. We survived Putin’s censors. Our reporters risk prison. Our editors will now work without pay. We need your help: en.zona.media/article/2025/0…

@spectatorindex Do I have this right that all he is really doing is making the tariffs equal whereas in the past the US gave more favorable rates than received - this seems reasonable and fair, what am I missing?

@blanx500 @shashj Russia has cleansed and still is cleansing the occupied Ukrainian territories of any opposing forces by a combination of expulsing and suppressing pro-Ukrainian parts of the population as well as bringing in Russians. It has worked semi-successfully in the Soviet Union.

@shashj The ? is, could RU militarily occupy UKR without suffering huge sabotage losses? No. RU really wants influence in UKR, not land with poor pensioners. Putin wants a N Ireland solution on the 4 oblasts, not Karelia. Karelia shuts RU out of UKR forever...

@fractalhierarxy @Teoyaomiquu Encirclements of larger formations like in WWII have never been achieved in this war. This was a controlled retreat from a logistically compromised position like many others before (by both sides).

@Teoyaomiquu This is interesting. Were they cut off before? Basically, what you are saying and the current Russian/US claim that Ukraine's forces in Kursk can now retreat all seems to come down to the same thing. Or am I missing something?

Situation in Kursk Region 1. There is no encirclement of our troops whatsoever. Not a single unit is cut off. 2. The troops have gained freedom of maneuver and short logistical routes. 3. Our soldiers are holding a tactically advantageous defensive line—several heights along the state border on Russian territory. Holding these heights plays a key role in defending the border zone. 4. At the moment, there is no threat of a large-scale offensive on Sumy and the Sumy region with significant forces. Attacks by small groups are possible, but only over short distances, without the ability to advance far. Via Yuri Butusov, Ukrainian journalist. As someone who regularly speaks with Ukrainian units on the ground I confirm this.

@Hexagram012 @alexwickham If the demands for neutrality and no-NATO-membership make effective security guarantees impossible, they are unacceptable. If the demand for demilitarisation makes Ukraine indefensible against another Russian attack, as any significant demilitarisation would, it's unacceptable.

@alexwickham Those are not "maximalist" unrealistic demands. Neutrality, no-NATO membership, demilitarisation and recognition of annexed territory, are limited objectives. And even better terms could've been agreed before and early in the war, instead of Ukraine fighting this unwinnable war

EXCLUSIVE — Vladimir Putin has made deliberately maximalist demands ahead of negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, which he knows are likely to be unacceptable to Kyiv and Europe, Western security officials told Bloomberg. — There there is no indication Putin is willing to compromise on any of his goals, and he is ready to continue fighting the war if he does not get what he wants, the people said. — The assessments about Putin’s intent cast doubt on whether he is serious about negotiating a realistic lasting peace settlement with Ukraine. They complicate Trump’s efforts to secure a deal, and clash with the president’s belief that Putin wants peace. — Putin has said Ukraine must formally commit to neutrality, abandon any ambition to join NATO, demilitarise and recognise Russian claims to annexed territory. Lavrov has ruled out European peacekeepers. There’s no sign those maximalist demands have changed. — It raises the prospect that Trump would have to agree to all of Putin’s terms if he wants a deal, or walk away. Both would risk rupturing relations between the US and Europe and seeing Ukraine fight on without US support. Story with @AlbertoNardelli >>> bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

@burtstengl @Rebel44CZ There is no simple yes/no option here. Yes, Europe should reduce dependency on US weapons manufacturers, but no, Europe shouldn't cut all ties. Western defence industries are just too intertwined.

@Rebel44CZ It's tough but all the "the US is no longer a reliable partner" talk is 100% correct. Even if (not when) Trump leaves office in 4 years and the most pro-western, pro-ukrainian democrat takes over, what if we get another Trump in 2032? Europe must cancel all weapons orders.

From @Deepstate_UA about the current situation in Kursk after further Russian advances this week, "the biggest problem in Kursk Oblast is the enemy's fire control over all logistics of Ukraine's defence forces. Since January, Russian troops have been increasing their ability to monitor our movements, yet no adequate steps have been taken on our side to eliminate this issue. By February, it had reached its peak, with the most serious complications arising after the loss of the village of Sverdlikovo, the attempts to regain which were also not executed in the best-planned manner... The advance of Russian troops along the border between the settlements Zhuravka and Novenke is also an unpleasant moment. This area is responsible for most strikes on logistics routes [of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – ed.] between the settlements of Yunakivka and Sudzha, and the situation there has been deteriorating for some time." pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2025/… t.me/DeepStateUA/21…

@Marston1889 @RALee85 @Deepstate_UA I don't know, Russia clearly had an advantage in Donbas anyway. Throwing in troops wouldn't have suddenly replaced non-built defences. And before the attack, Russia didn't have to protect the border while Ukraine had to protect the border. This imbalance was strangling Ukraine.

Now Zelensky and Ukrainians are being lectured and tone policed by MAGA sycophants. Imagine being told you were rude by people who fawn over the most egregiously insulting politician in the world. At least we now see why they can't comprehend dignity in others.

Zelensky is a wartime leader watching his people suffer and die under Russian attacks every day. To be lectured and lied to by Trump and Vance, as they defend the war criminal dictator committing these atrocities, is unimaginable agony. An everlasting shame for America.

U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly ordered the shutdown of the U.S. military base in Alexandroupoli, Greece, according to Greek newspaper Dimokratia. According to Greek media, Trump’s decision to dismantle the military presence in Alexandroupoli came after a joint request from Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The base in Alexandroupoli has been a key logistical hub for U.S. and NATO operations in southeastern Europe. Its presence had been a point of contention, particularly with Turkey, which has long opposed U.S. military operations in the region. defence-blog.com/trump-shuts-do…
