What is the real genesis of the Manipur crisis? The crisis was originated at Churachandpur district during an ATSUM rally on May 3rd against the court ruling on Mar 27 regarding Meetei’s demand for inclusion in ST list of Indian constitution. But what is the real cause of the violence? Is it really related to the ST demand by the Meetei community? To understand a little deeper, let’s look at events preceding May 3rd!

1. Kukis CSO’s were never asking for Kukiland before conflict in May 2023 Kuki Militants were , Nagas militia surely were asking for Nagalim, similarly Meitie militia for separate Kangleipak nation. No tribal CSO’s were asking for separate flag or nation only militants were. 2. Ask anyone who is the biggest supplier of illegal timber in Manipur and drugs all are involved. 3. April 7: A projectile from the hills (dominated by Kuki-Zo groups) lands in Bishnupur’s Tronglaobi, kills two sleeping children beside their mother. Father is a BSF jawan. Protests erupt. April 18: Alleged SoO cadres ambush a vehicle on NH-202. Retired Army soldier (Naga Regiment) killed. Three incidents. Same arc of escalation. A pattern of organised militant provocation. Those behind these attacks must be identified and neutralised through precise, intelligence-led ops and soon.
