Warmest congratulations to Michael McGlynn, one of Ireland’s most influential composers, who has his unique contributions to Irish music and culture recognised with an honorary doctorate from UCD. 🎼 Since founding the vocal ensemble Anúna in 1987, McGlynn has created a body of work that blends early choral traditions, sean-nós singing and the Irish language into a strikingly original sound. McGlynn’s music has been performed worldwide, with professional choirs regularly featuring his compositions. His work has inspired the new generation of Irish composers behind the current renaissance in choral music. “The sound-world that Michael McGlynn has created has produced a body of compositions which not only imagine Ireland, but which represent this country with such conviction and authenticity to the world at large.” – Professor Harry White, UCD School of Music, who delivered the official citation.
