@emily4MK Any thoughts for the women locked up with male prisoners? Female athletes losing scholarships, medals and prizes? Women fleeing domestic abuse shelters who are traumatised? Etc. Etc..Etc. The guidance was necessary because organisations were not following the LAW.

@KishwerFalkner @thetimes This government are just so appallingly awful on every front. I'm sorry that a senior minister is behaving in such a disrespectful way to another exemplary public servant.

Sad to read in @thetimes that Bridget Phillipson is blaming me for delay to EHRC Code. She certainly stoops low. She had Code for 3 months when she sent me this letter last November - no indication of any grandstanding then.

"This ideology is dangerous and, after over a decade of its destruction of real and important LGB activism, I’d say it’s becoming boring. Being called a bigot for challenging it certainly is, anyway." Read below: telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/05/2…

Useful thread regarding recent UK tribunal. The claimant is a Muslim woman with PTSD (a disability) whose workplace allowed men to use female facilties. Her claim for discrimination was successful *on the basis of her being a woman.* Her being Muslim (assumed modesty) and disabled (potential trauma) were unsuccessful claims. That is (IANAL), neither of those characteristics were judged to have placed her at a specific disadvantage over and above the baseline of *being a woman*. Many women have been weaponised in the general debate. Women have felt pressured to reveal sexual trauma to justify why they want safe, female-only spaces. Religiously modest women have been held up as rhetorical shields. No more. Being a woman is sufficient.
Legal Feminist@legalfeminist

The claimant is a Muslim woman with PTSD from sexual abuse. She complained that NHSE's policy of letting men use women's facilities was indirect discrimination related to three protected characteristics sex, disability (her PTSD) and religion or belief (her Muslim faith).

I can't help thinking that if the British Government brought the energy it has to prevent the "far right" from entering the country to preventing illegal immigrants from entering the country there might not be a "far right" in the first place.

This is, as many people have said, a tremendous speech. I'm neither surprised nor too worried that the vote was lost - that many students voted against women's and LGB rights. As a student, I was passionate and a bit dogmatic, confident that I was on the right side of history. But when I heard counter arguments, even if they didn't persuade me straight away, they went round and round in my head for months and years. They bugged me. There will be plenty of cambridge students today who are unsettled, reflective, moving towards their own 'hang on a minute' moment. It's difficult to overestimate the importance of what @MaeveHalligan and her colleagues have done, and the effects will filter out over the decades to come. Just having the arguments is tremendously important. To present them as intelligently and articulately as they have done is a magnificent bonus.

"No, I don't subscribe to this 'kindness' - I'll tell the truth instead." I spoke at the Cambridge Union last night about LGBs, children's safety and women's rights. Full video here:

@salltweets The law is an ass as I think the famous saying goes. I am so sorry. Perhaps this will finally goad the silent majority into doing something to get the law changed.

I am absolutely devastated Men who claim to be women have more rights than actual women in Australia. It is women who are being discriminated against, not the men who claim to be us. But in a sense, nothing has changed: we will all wake up tomorrow & men will still not be women.

@ShahrarAli It's not a "mistake" to forget to pay Council Tax because we all know we have to pay it. It's a deliberate attempt to evade taxation and he thought he'd get away with it. He's just another hypocritical politician -" do as I say, not as I do".

Zack has been banging about tax every single day since his election as leader. Seems that rules don't apply to him. This is serious impropriety. Zack Polanski has apologised for an "unintentional mistake" over council tax as evidence mounts that his houseboat was his primary residence in a London borough. express.co.uk/news/uk/220442…

Our party has suffered a historic defeat. Many good Labour colleagues have lost their seats despite working hard for those they represented. We have lost good Labour administrations and lost the chance for more. What we are doing isn’t working, and it needs to change. This may be our last chance. The Labour Party must now live up to our name: we must be the party of working people. We’ve heard the same on the doorstep as we’ve seen in the polls - the cost of living is the top issue for voters of all parties. People have turned to populists and nationalists because we have not done enough to fix it. Living standards are barely higher than they were a decade and a half ago. People feel hopeless - that the cost of living crisis will never end, and now they see oil and gas companies use global instability to post record profits. Once again, ordinary people are paying the price for decisions they didn’t make. It’s no wonder that across the UK, working people feel the system is rigged against them. Things can be so much better than this. Countries including Spain and Canada have shown that economies can grow and people can thrive when governments stay true to labour and social democratic values and put people first. We need to learn from that. In London, we lost young people who fear they will never afford a home. In my patch and across the north, we lost working people whose wages are too low and costs too high. In Scotland and Wales, people do not currently see Labour as the answer.  We are in danger of becoming a party of the well-off, not working people. The Peter Mandelson scandal showed a toxic culture of cronyism.  Decisions like cutting winter fuel allowance just weren’t what people expected from a Labour government. For too long, successive governments have allowed wealth and power to concentrate at the top without a plan to ensure the benefits of economic growth are shared fairly. The result is an economy that does not work for the majority, with wealth concentrated in too few hands. This level of inequality, alongside squeezed living standards, is the outcome of a model built on deregulation, privatisation, and trickle-down economics. But we have the chance to fix this.  1/2

I just finished an interview with Brad from Across Nigeria… and honestly, I’m sitting here stunned. Today, he buried 14 Christians in a mass grave. Two were infants. One was a 4-year-old child. And this isn’t some recycled internet story or political talking point. Brad was literally there today helping bury them. While on the way to investigate one attack, another Christian community was attacked. He said the violence is happening so fast they can barely keep up anymore. What shocked me even more is this: Brad shared that 72% of all Christians killed worldwide last year were killed in this region of Nigeria. 72%. And hardly anybody is talking about it. The mainstream media should be all over this. Instead, most people scrolling social media today have no idea our brothers and sisters in Christ are being slaughtered while churches are being forced underground. Guys… this matters. Please watch this interview. Please pray for these families. And PLEASE share this everywhere you can. At this point, WE are the media. WE are how people find out. WE are the distribution network. If enough ordinary people start sharing the truth, eventually the world will have to pay attention. Watch the full conversation and help us get this story out.

Keir Starmer doesn't get it. Appointments don't "accelerate cultural change". Actions do. On women's rights he needs to start by implementing the law on single-sex services: in his own government, and by laying the EHRC Code before parliament.
Henry Zeffman@hzeffman

From Downing Street: Keir Starmer said yesterday he would set out the next steps in his plan to build a stronger and fairer Britain in the coming days. Today he has appointed Harriet Harman as the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Women and Girls. The PM committed to do more to eradicate structural misogyny and achieve a cultural change. This appointment will help to accelerate progress.

@rachelmillward YOU alright there, Rachel? Integrity is sadly lacking in politics. Your inability to answer a straight question with a factual answer is why so many people are feeling let down by cowardly politicians who are too afraid of activists and too willing to compromise female rights.

I’m delighted to appoint @HarrietHarman as my Adviser on Women and Girls. Harriet is a strong advocate for women and girls and I know she will deliver greater opportunity for women in public life. I’m committed to tackling structural misogyny that is a barrier for too many women and girls. I look forward to working with Harriet to drive forward action on this important issue.

So disgusted by this… Worked with Maureen in 2015 on a play, in Birmingham & London, & there were concerns for her safety even then. This abysmally foul & downright dangerous attempt to demonise & cancel her should outrage & sicken us all. Arts: SPEAK UP & OUT! RT 🙏

When women talk about not wanting to be defined by regressive stereotypes, or renamed uterus havers, or lose all language to describe the physical, political and social needs of female humans (including the word "female"), they're talking about *their own lives*
Ursula Doyle@suladoyle

I haven’t met any women who want to ‘reduce the rights of trans people’ as per Zack Polanski’s claim ⬇️ (Sunday Times). Women campaigning against the unlawful removal of our rights are not engaged in a culture war. And why are we the only group whose identity is up for grabs? 🤔
