@Bombers_Boss As long as he’s healthy and happy, no issues at all with him being a candidate - but if he is, the selection panel needs to include 2-3 non Essendon members who can assess Hirdy with objectivity.

There’s literally nothing that would make me happier than James Hird returning to coach our next flag to stick it up his detractors but it’s a fantasy. Outside the romance of it, it’s a disaster waiting to happen & I sincerely hope it’s not our plan going forward. Hirdy got hammered pillar to post over his tenure & from a personal standpoint, I just want him to look after himself & don’t put himself through it again

@DanielCherny Agree! No need for a long drawn out process.. coaching selections panel have had a great success with Knights and Scott. Just sign him up and get onto winning premierships!

Objectively speaking, Essendon has to appoint James Hird if only because until they do every Bombers coach will live with his spectre.

@RonnyLerner Gee you must have been on holidays when he was coaching. Easily the most strategic coach Essendon has ever had, could change a game in a qtr through coaching moves. I think it’s more that people like you need to let go of the past.. deserves a chance at redemption.

If Essendon even considers James Hird to be their coach again after all this time, it would underscore what a backward dysfunctional organisation it is and its sheer inability to let go of the past. Hird hasn’t coached for 11 years and he didn’t even demonstrate that he had what it took to become a super coach in his time in the job! The Bombers need to stop the obsession with past greats or they will continue to go nowhere. The club has to embrace the future and bring in the best guy for the job who has recently been involved at club land for a lengthy period of time

@Kyptastic1 Great read Humey and agree entirely. The strategy is right, however they need to continue having the guts to make to tough calls and put a coach in that can provide an actual game plan to help the players develop.

I understand the club looking into the football department, should always be reviewing…but this is the issue with hiring a non football CEO, Roberts should be doing this work, instead we’re getting our ex football CEO to do the work, reviewing his own previous work 🤣

A free kick for last disposal out of bounds between arcs is garbage. Cop-out for umpires. But AFL gets away with it because constant messaging about it has conditioned the public. The sport will be unrecognisable in 10-20 years. Wonder how long it'll be before tackling is illegal
