The Washington Post is reporting that Trump allies have drafted and are circulating a 17-page executive order that would use bogus allegations that China interfered in the 2020 election in order to justify “extraordinary presidential power over voting,” including mandating voter ID and banning mail-in votes. “Under the Constitution, it’s the legislatures and states that really control how a state conducts its elections, and the president doesn’t have any power to do that,” says Peter Ticktin, one of the people involved in the creation of the order. “But here we have a situation where the president is aware that there are foreign interests that are interfering in our election processes.
