At the very least, the Bill could have been delinked and implemented. The NDA could have delinked it. They chose not to. They could have used this time to consult states on delimitation. What happes now? Delimitation WILL STILL HAPPEN after the first census post-2026. The 84th Amendment has frozen only until 2026. Once the constitutional mechanism kicks in, you'll have delimitation based on population, and the enacting act will require a simple majority.

The Bill that would have amended the Constitution for political means of the ruling regime- to increase the seats, reduce the voice of many states and enable the gerrymandering of constituencies to ensure unfair victories stands defeated in the Parliament. The very Amendment would have ensured the total defeat of democracy and the Constitution in India, stands rejected by the unity of the Opposition MPs. The truth is, the Women Reservation Act has been passed by the Parliament in 2023 and notified as of 16/4/2026. Today’s Bill should have been called “Delimitation to ensure unfair victory Bill” A genuine need is to enable 33% reservation in the current number of seats! Now it is upto the government to ensure that it is implemented in the 543 seats of the Lok Sabha for the 2029 elections and all elections across India- if that is the real intent of the government.
