Mount Athos, an autonomous monastic region in Greece, enforces a strict Avaton (prohibition) that bans women and even female animals (except cats to curb mice, lol) from entering the entire peninsula. This rule has been in place for over 1,000 years to maintain monastic celibacy and honor the Virgin Mary. Violating this law can result in legal penalties, including imprisonment. Access is restricted to men with a specific permit. The prohibition extends 500 meters (approx. 1,640 feet) from the coastline. Even tourist boats are restricted to maintaining this distance. The ban is upheld by the Greek Parliament and is recognized within the European Union for spiritual and religious reasons. Attempting to enter can lead to a prison sentence of two months to one year. According to Orthodox tradition, the peninsula is dedicated to the Virgin Mary ("The Garden of the Theotokos"), who is considered the only woman allowed on the mountain. One of the traditions that has been handed down regarding this is that the Virgin Mary was supposedly blown off course when she was trying to sail to Cyprus and landed on Mount Athos. And she liked it so much that she prayed to her son that she should be given it as her own and he agreed. It is still called 'the garden of the mother of God', dedicated to her glory, and she alone represents her sex on Mount Athos. Another tradition has it that centuries ago, after several monks reported visions of the Virgin Mary, following whom it was decided that the Athos monks should devote themselves only to her, and that no other woman should be allowed lest they may outshine her. I am waiting for @AKanisetti (who blocked me recently) to write articles on this too and call the Virgin Mary as controversial because there is a small mountainous peninsula where she won’t allow other women to enter. Please reshare a lot. We need women to enter Athos mountain too. European Union should intervene in this affair asap and our judiciary should enforce our constitutional morality on the Greek Orthodox Church. @halleyji @infinitchy @jsaideepak @labstamil Link for an article reg this : ap.org/news-highlight…

A personal story, R went on a short business trip of 5 days to US in 2018, came back with illness. Eventually diagnosed to have westnile meningoencephalitis. Diagnosed after intensive search for etiology, Texas was endemic for westnile virus, that particular week there was an outbreak there. Thats how here in India, we were able to diagnose his condition. He made a recovery but was left with neurological and behavioral sequelae which lead to sequence of events leading to final eventuality and his death in 2020. I know what those 2 years as a care giver looked like. I wished so many times, he had not traveled, there was a travel advisory or some vaccination either pre or post exposure that could have prevented this ordeal. Sharing my personal story because I know the pain of loss. How vaccines have prevented many chronic conditions, disability and death. As adults we can take any informed decision about our health. We need to make right choices for our kids, denying your kids the right choice is criminal. If in doubt talk to your doctor about all your concerns be it vaccination or any new therapy started. Make informed decisions. The whole debate of Mr. Vembu @svembu supporting a poorly written paper, especially at a time when misinformation is on rise and with eroding trust issues only added fuel to the fire. 20 years of practice, no pharma has ever paid me anything. Because that's the easiest abuse one can hurl at doctors I believe. Science is the only way out. Calling out a poorly done study and its implications are also equally important. #MedTwitter

Nice sleight of hand that appropriates a moral act as a socialist one. Salk has never publicly stated n ideological opinion. The funding of the vaccine came not from the State but from citizen donations to the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis(later March of Dimes) 1/3
Nick Pettigrew@Nick_Pettigrew

Polio was eradicated because Jonas Salk chose not to patent the vaccine, if you want a perfect example of a socialist act.

All experts worldwide today will agree off camera that Akash Defence system worked better than Iron Dome. So, let me pay a little tribute to the man behind it and some other patriotic Indians who made it possible. Save the 🧵 for times when you are in doubt about duty. 1/

This is why every Indian commentator talking to Western media should underline 3 points 1) OBL was found hiding in Pakistan 2 blocks from their version of Westpoint 2) India avenged the beheading of American journo Daniel Pearl in our retaliatory attacks. 3) Pakistan is Jihad HQ

@swarajk_ Well the slant is about to get much much worse. India was never in the public conscious enough to become a voting issue. Once India becomes the hot new rebel cause I don't know what happens. I don't think we can do much about it but oh well. We at least have a few years ++

@ShreeHistory @khatvaanga Even more hilarious is that this pompous statement was made to an actual microbiologist and researcher @AnushaRohit. He thinks his social media clout and brain dead followers make him immune to scrutiny. Not to mention the fact that he's blocked most of #MedTwitter

Hello, actual microbiome researcher here. Bacteriophages are giant viruses that feast on various types of bacteria. The presence of large numbers of bacteriophages is a measure of severe bacterial contamination from various sources including human excreta. Sewage water contains very large amounts of bacteriophages. It doesn't make it drinkable. The Government will always find such so-called scientists with a penchant for twisting and misinterpreting scientific data to fit their narrative, instead of making the public more aware, to prevent widespread negative healthcare events. This is a government of the people, by the people, but definitely not for the people.

A groundbreaking study by renowned scientist Dr. Ajay Sonkar has revealed that the #Ganga River remains completely germ-free despite over 60 crore visitors taking holy dips during #MahaKumbh in #Prayagraj, #UttarPradesh. The research shows that Ganga is the world's only freshwater river containing 1,100 types of bacteriophages that naturally purify water by eliminating pollution and killing harmful bacteria.
