It is the harassment of the Government of Kenya and interference with the management of the Nairobi Hospital that killed Dr Job Obwaka. We did not hear from you when the Doctor was abducted and detained for a weekend. Your condolences are morbid and cynical.

On behalf of the Ministry of Health, I convey deep sorrow following the passing of Dr. Job Obwaka at the age of 83, a veteran obstetrician and former Director at the Nairobi Hospital. Dr. Obwaka devoted his life to advancing medical practice in Kenya, leaving an invaluable contribution to the medical fraternity through his clinical excellence, leadership and mentorship of generations of practitioners. His work significantly strengthened standards of care and improved outcomes in maternal and reproductive health services across the country. We honour his distinguished service and commitment to humanity and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues and the wider medical community during this difficult time.

We have today issued a Special Gazette Notice extending the waiver period for fees charged on the replacement of IDs and change of particulars for a further six months. We are committed to ensuring that all citizens can acquire vital identification documents in order to access government services and other opportunities. This move complements other measures spearheaded by H.E. President @WilliamsRuto, including the scrapping of charges for first-time ID applicants and the authentication fee for birth certificates, as well as the removal of extra vetting for border communities. I call on all eligible Kenyans to take advantage of this waiver and register for ID cards.

Harassment by the Government of Kenya, its interference with the management the Nairobi Hospital, and trumped up charges on the same definitely accelerated the deterioration of the health of Dr Job Obwaka and his untimely death. I am sad and annoyed.
