They keep saying Nolan did it this way to win Oscars. Is there an Oscar for "most gratuitous race-swapping"? Is there an Oscar for "worst casting of a black actress"? Is there an Oscar for "most inappropriate music"? Is there an Oscar for "best use of a gender-confused woman"? Is there an Oscar for "darkest cinematography"? If all of those awards exist, then Nolan definitely is going to sweep the Academy Awards. Otherwise...?

THE ODYSSEY 5/10 Incredibly disappointed. A linear story with bad acting, choppy weird editing, and no stake for the viewer. Acting, editing, pace. Just bad. The final 30 minutes was good, but not "the best ever" what others have said.

Success and Profit are not the same. Your calculations are mostly correct. You've added a "Distribution/other costs" category that doesn't really exist. Those cost are rolled in studio into the marketing numbers (it's called P&A - prints and advertising). This puts your numbers off. This puts break even at 655-750 million depending on the distribution of tickets and of IMAX vs Regular (which payout differently). So you are close, but number are a little off

I'm sure "The Odyssey" will do great but, FACTS: Production: $250M Marketing: $125M Distribution/other costs: $25–50M Total investment: $400–425M Also, studios do not keep 100% of ticket sales - they ultimately receive about 50% of worldwide box office (more domestically, less internationally). So if total costs are: $400 million, breakeven = $800 million worldwide $425 million, breakeven = $850 million worldwide And for anyone who claims it only needs $375–500 million to break even, that implies Universal spent nothing for the nationwide/global marketing campaign, and that theatres take no part of that box office. Just wanted to get this out there before the lies start.

@ColtSTaylor The amount of money the film draws in is irrelevant to how good, bad, or accurate it is. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Honestly, I enjoyed it too, I just wish certain things weren't taken out that I liked from other versions of the story and from the poem.

No, The Odyssey isn't a bad movie because Nolan chose to cast trans and black characters in traditionally white and cis roles. The Odyssey is a bad movie because it doesn't follow the source material well enough and has terrible pacing.
