Don't let my last tweet fool you. Still beyond distressed about the current political situation. It consumes almost my every waking thought

@PaddyTheFitzer @ItsMrsRabbitToU Using the fact that it is unevenly applied, which is due to sexist misconceptions about women, as some gotcha to imply women are somehow benefiting from a sexist society is a ridiculous position and pretty much always coming from a place of trying to undermine feminism.

@PaddyTheFitzer @ItsMrsRabbitToU The feminist position on the draft is that it fundamentally incompatible with bodily autonomy. So it is a feminist issue. We don't solve that problem by making it bad for everyone. The fact that it exists at all is worthy of outrage.

@upsidechazwick @Josh95523782 @arash_tehran @eleanoir You likely believe in eugenics, especially if you view intelligence as mostly due to genetics. That's your right. It's my right to think organizing our view of "value" in that manner is a bad thing, and that followed to its natural conclusion it leads to nazi type shit.

@upsidechazwick @Josh95523782 @arash_tehran @eleanoir People pass on inheritable traits is a factual statement. The idea of those traits, or people, being specifically desirable or undesirable and their reproduction destroying society is eugenics and wrong. So no, eugenics is not correct.

@Josh95523782 @arash_tehran @eleanoir Because the natural end point of that theory is awful nazi shit that denies physical autonomy. It also requires that you look at people as immutably desirable vs undesirable which is an evil way to look at people.

@GrassChild420 @eleanoir I consider it a film that had an overall negative impact on the world. I consider eugenics to be evil, and it makes me sad that something unintentionally spread that. I think those negatives outweigh the funny things in it. I probably wouldn't use "evil" as my first description.

@garglontopofme @eleanoir That's an extreme form of eugenics, and the natural end point of eugenics theory. But the eugenics movement didn't start or end with Goebbels. The film absolutely promotes eugenics theory. It's also a funny satire with commentary on capitalism. Two things can be true.

@ArielRoseV @eleanoir I don’t think Idiocracy (2006) advocates for euthanizing non-desirable genetic traits out of the population. It’s a satire about human capitalism, and the loss of human dignity that capitalism inevitably brings. Idk where you’re getting eugenics, Goebbels

No one talks about how being diagnosed ADHD and/or autistic makes you realize that your parents have been rawdogging their neurodivergences like it's an olympic sport

@BigBoi785710729 @BorisBartlog @eleanoir I honestly don't think he really does. But it doesn't have to be intentional to be there. I've heard people specifically cite this movie in defense of eugenics talking points.

@Lacie78d @eleanoir And the evil part is that most people don't notice or care, because the movie has some other funny observations. But it helps spread eugenics theory, and makes people more resistant to examining or unlearning that.

@Josh95523782 @arash_tehran @eleanoir Eugenics isn't just "a word I associate with evil" Eugenics theory is that "undesirable" people having children is bad for society because they pass on these "undesirable" traits. And that "desirable" people having children is good. That's also the literal premise of the movie

@arash_tehran @eleanoir You have to actually state why something is bad. “It sounds like a word I associate with evil” isn’t valid criticism.

@AmOneMag @eleanoir The premise is inherently dependent on eugenics theory. Although I don't believe eugenics is the point of the movie, I think the impact it had definitely promoted eugenics beliefs, even if people will publicly disagree with the term, they still support the theory.

@ajoajoajoaj @eleanoir I mean I guess it could be. But I think it backfired because I've had people defend eugenics and be incredibly resistant to the idea that all forms of eugenics are bad specifically because of things like this movie.

@eleanoir Am I the only one who took the genetic angle to be a comedic shorthand and not the actual solution for the scenario this movie sets up?

@tonypaoletti @eleanoir That promoting eugenics theory is evil? You think that's the worst (non racist/sexist) opinion you can have?
