Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Jan. 27, 2026 marks the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp. At Auschwitz, thousands of shoes remain behind glass. Each pair once belonged to someone with a name, a family, a life. They were taken upon arrival. Most of their owners were murdered soon after. The shoes endure as quiet witnesses, proof that the victims were not numbers, but people. We remember them.
