@JohnDaBruce @agent_call88545 @EvriDeliveryCom Don’t engage with these people, they are scammers. Evri does not communicate via Twitter apparently. I did this yesterday then received a scam call trying to install the LemFi app for verification and a ‘refund’. Nigerian scam outfit.

@joel120193 Apologies, I did wonder what was meant by the asterisk and pensions at the bottom there. My excuse? Half-term brain!

@ArwenWebb Hence my asterisk. I didn't include pensions because most people say "oh but you get that back" and it waters down the point. A person on £50,270 would pay £5,127 in pension, so the threshold for HRT would be £55,397.

The median teacher pay in the UK is £49,084. Higher rate tax kicks in at £50,270* People often say "you pay 40% on everything above that" but this isn't true. You pay 42% and if you have a student loan you pay 51%.

@inlandtaipan1 @patmcfaddenmp Hard working, bright daughter. Studied law @ Cambridge. Been through a rigorous and blind recruitment process with CS fast stream. I grew up piss poor on a council estate, heroin addict parents, became a teacher, yet I would be seen as too middle class?

@patmcfaddenmp Your decision to limit Civil service interns to working class students is shameful. There are many young people who want to work for the government, with a desire to make the fast stream, that will now have that chance taken away from them!

@EarlsfieldGirl Absolutely agree. My daughter has just been through this process. Very rigorous and totally blind. I grew up on a council estate, parents were heroin addicts, I became a teacher, my daughter went to a state grammar and then studied law at Cambridge. She got the job-works hard!

Ludicrous. Applications are already blind through the stages of the assessment process, so as to focus on skill and potential. This will only serve to starve of talent. BBC News - Civil service interns must all be working class, government says - BBC News bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@franceshinde Many people are talking about the effect of VAT on falling student numbers and income. Has anyone thought of looking at the expenditure of these private schools? Their expenditure on facilities per student seems far exceed that of the state sector. Perhaps they need to …1/2

Well done @RachelReevesMP @Keir_Starmer after 183 years of being a school #MountStMarys #TheMount in 6 months you have managed to shut it leaving 500 and kids and their teachers with no school to go to and parents desperately trying find places in schools in the state system which we all have to pay for through more tax. In your constituency @Louise_Jones_MP hope your proud of your achievement!

@andyhassan1985 @adamboxer1 I concur. Another question though, what if the school policy is not the best (for students and/or teachers), but merely have been adopted because they are the ‘new thing’ (emperor’s new clothes)? I have been in teaching for long enough to see many fads come and go.

@adamboxer1 Policy is the problem. Too prescriptive and does not allow for professional autonomy. Perhaps Steph’s questions were more suited to that particular lesson/students. There are many ways to skin a cat.

Recent 2025 polls suggest most of the UK does not view Israel favorably. A YouGov poll from June 2025 shows a net favorability of -46, with 63%-70% holding unfavorable views and only 13%-21% favorable. A Pew Research poll (Jan-Apr 2025) reports 61% unfavorable opinions, up from 44% in 2013. Another June 2025 poll by Action for Humanity/ICJP indicates 55% oppose Israel's actions in Gaza, with 45% calling them genocidal and 65% supporting ICC warrants for Israeli leaders. The claim that most of the UK likes Israel lacks support from current data, which shows strong public criticism, especially over Gaza.

Israel in the UK 🇮🇱🤝🇬🇧
The Embassy of Israel in the United Kingdom is deeply disturbed by the inflammatory and hateful rhetoric expressed on stage at the Glastonbury Festival. Freedom of expression is a cornerstone of democracy. But when speech crosses into incitement, hatred, and advocacy of ethnic cleansing, it must be called out—especially when amplified by public figures on prominent platforms. Chants such as “Death to the IDF,” and “From the river to the sea” are slogans that advocate for the dismantling of the State of Israel and implicitly call for the elimination of Jewish self-determination. When such messages are delivered before tens of thousands of festivalgoers and met with applause, it raises serious concerns about the normalisation of extremist language and the glorification of violence. We call on Glastonbury Festival organisers, artists, and public leaders in the UK to denounce this rhetoric and reject of all forms of hatred.

@MrsHenders4652 @tombennett71 Aren’t examinations, to a certain lesser degree, also a test of someone’s ability to perform, and cope, under a degree of pressure. If you cannot cope with the pressure of an examination, perhaps you should not be sitting them.

@tombennett71 I needed an exam room to myself at uni as I was having crippling panic attacks in exam halls and that allowed me to finish my studies rather than drop out. Anxiety disorders can be exacerbated with exams so sitting in a quieter and less imposing environment was a god send

This is absurd. The vast majority of children can sit an exam with others, and the main reason why so many now think that we can't is because we tell them they can't. Adults need to teach children that they *can* cope, because when we don't, we create children who believe they cannot cope with the normal spectrum of distress that life throws at us. This is crippling them, not kindness. This is not support; this is harm.
Teachers Talk Radio@TTRadioOfficial

"For our English and Maths exam, we needed 77 rooms! 54 rooms for individuals to sit alone.. they are saying they are too anxious to take the exam in a room with everyone else" Alun Francis on TTR earlier: youtube.com/watch?v=wVVaRx…

Was just trying to book St. Paul's Cathedral tickets for visiting friends. A single daytime entry ticket is now a whopping £26. Westminster Abbey: £29. Just to compare - Cologne Cathedral: free. Notre Dame Paris: free. Florence Dome and Rome St Peter's Basilica: free
