@CampasLab but would it be also possible to put oil droplets between cells ?

@AscidianBioCell We do use fluorocarbon oils that are biocompatible and do not mix with lipids or water. Also, we use fluorinated surfactants to stabilize the droplet and prevent non-specific interactions at the surface. It seems that you want to use it inside blastomeres... is this correct?

@CampasLab yes, that is what we do usually. we would like to confirm forces felt by cells and assess whether there can be inhomogeneity in tension between cells or withun cells (as there is strong segregation of cytoplasm in our cells).

@CampasLab We've been injecting sigma oil or wesson vegetable oil but never tried other types of oil

@AscidianBioCell Great! It really helps a lot if it is fluorescent, specially for 3D reconstructions. However, you can measure stresses with droplets in some cases with only a 2D section and no fluorescence - you just need to see and measure the location of the droplet contour.

I love the idea of shared talks between scientists from different disciplines who work together for #interdisciplinary research. I hope it will show that I hardly know or understand any physics 😩 but that we have learned to discuss through a common language to bridge disciplines

📢 We are thrilled to announce the next talks of the @TLM_Cambridge online seminar series with our amazing speakers: @JgrosL, F.Corson, K. Alim, @maitrejl & @virtual_embryo! Talks are free and open to all ! Please RT & join the mailing list here to attend: lists.cam.ac.uk/mailman/listin…

Phallusia magic : the pigmented cell leaving the neural epithelium to go into the brain cavity is called the otolith. the other pigmented cell (in green too) is the ocellus. My question : is the otolith undrgoing "cell slithering" ??
