@KalanisCalves @SubtleAlpha You would be surprised how much tipping incentivizes people. Here in Europe tipping is not really a thing and the service is often way worse. It's also cultural, but part of it's tips

Dear restaurant industry, Please raise your menu prices by 20% on everything and let’s just be done with the tipping altogether. I’m not here to manage your staff. If the service sucks, we just won’t come back. Signed, A lot of us

@goldseek @SamDeGennaro You do know getting into the USA requires biometrics and has done for a very long time. Its always been quite a wait. I remember hours in Austin waiting to get in.

@SamDeGennaro This is feedback from my parents flying to visit us. The same situation was seen in Prague late January when this rule started. 1-2 hours wait or more. They have a new system now and it flows but it’s a major issue.

Americans flying to Europe have a very rude awakening waiting for them at arrivals! Today for example, Frankfurt has a 2-3 hour line, where the EU will fingerprint you and treat you as a criminal suspect upon entry. The result in the new “security” feature has impacted most arrivals with less than a few hours to connect. Airlines have a heck of a job to deal with. And yes, other countries treat Europeans like criminals too. USA for example still will not allow a Czech citizen to freely travel to the U.S. without applying for a visa.

I rarely eat out. Maybe once a month. Went yesterday to a restaurant (Italian, Mediterranean) in West Seattle for Mother’s Day last night. Total for 5 of us ( we don’t drink alcohol) with one salad, humus and 3 vegetarian pastas was $97 The check said 3.5% surcharge for credit card. Then 17% service fee, mandatory. Then tips were 20% 22% and 25% optional. I asked if I could pay in cash. No. They don’t take cash. Then how can I avoid the credit card fee I asked. You can’t. So I asked why the service charge. It pays for the employees they said. Then why the tip I asked. It pays for front office staff I don’t get it.

@FatStacksBlog yeah, always a bright side. my neighbor's fridge broke and the landlord didn't replace it for months. she eventually had to buy a mini fridge as it was coming into summer. we live in small apartments, no backup basement fridges :>

Our fridge broke overnight. I had to move everything to the basement fridge first thing this morning. I could dwell on how much of a drag this is and bemoan having to potentially shell out for a new fridge if it can’t be fixed. I could stew about the fact the repair guy just called and said his vehicle broke down so he’ll be an hour late outside the four hour window he’s supposed to show up. Or, I can be grateful I have the flexibility to accommodate a changing repair schedule, the fact we have a fridge and a backup fridge, that there are repair people in our area (hopefully talented lol), the funds to pay for said repair all in a home I love. Silver linings. I try to see them among the clouds. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I don't.

Because I'm a tourist in Germany and I expect to see Germans and hear German but instead I only see gypsies, Arabs, Africabs, and Turks and I hear Turkish and Arabic. It's confusing and deeply wrong. In fact, it's offensive. It should not be like this.
arthur_msiska@Artska_Sven

@johannesmkx And why is that? I need you to give me an honest answer, do you think all the migrants will physically attack you guys? Much as there could be so many Ausländer, I still think power in these nations remain with white people and there's not much to fear as you make it sound

I truly don’t understand how anyone using AI for real work can think that we are anywhere close to AGI or that AI is an immediate threat to all tech jobs. Claude, Gemini, and ChatGPT are still so fucking stupid most of the time.

Why on earth would you put your HQ on the *Bahnhohstrasse*? 👀
Lukas Ziegler@lukas_m_ziegler

JUST IN: microagi is opening its Global Robotics Research HQ on Bahnhofstrasse in Zürich, and choosing it over San Francisco. Eight months ago @microagi was five people in a Munich hacker house. Today they operate in 15+ countries. The reasoning behind Zürich is compelling: → Highest density of robotics talent in the world, ETH Zürich, EPFL, University of Zürich, IBM Research, Google, NVIDIA, Meta, Apple and Microsoft all run serious ML and robotics teams here → ABB, one of the most important industrial automation companies on earth, is headquartered in the city itself → Within a 6-hour radius: German automotive, Italian manufacturing, French aerospace, Benelux logistics and Swiss machine tools But the line that stuck with me most: "Europe was late to consumer internet. Europe was late to cloud. Europe was late to the foundation-model wave. But Europe is not late to robotics." That is exactly right. The industrial base that physical AI sits on top of has been in Europe for 150 years. Precision mechanics. Machine-tool culture. Safety-critical engineering. Automation-grade manufacturing. The next decade of AI value will be created where bits meet atoms. And Europe is finally in the right position at the right moment. microagi gets it. And they're planting their flag right in the heart of it. 🇨🇭🇪🇺 @bercankilic, @YoanIlievX, @ZenoInMotion, @notgiannei LFG! 🔥 ~~ ♻️ Join the weekly robotics newsletter, and never miss any news → ziegler.substack.com

@DelB0yTr0tter The new world. I tell friends all the time - the future is not pigeon holed jobs, set skills, its being open, lifelong learning, collaboration and the ability to push on. I left the workforce nearly 15 years ago and its hard on your own. But way worth it.

The most important point Ken makes is ‘experiencing loss’ When Vive starts hiring (soon) - I do not want to see CVs. I want to see a one pager listing all the applicant’s losses and their subsequent outcomes. You cannot WIN in life if you do not know what it feels like to lose and what it takes to make a come back. The vast majority of people never come back up when life lands a clean right hook on their ‘chin’. They go down and they stay down. The pain is unbearable and it’s supposed to be... The very few that do find the strength to stand up and go on to win the fight of life are the TRUE winners.

high aspirations, tremendous perseverance, and grit… lifetime learners, because today more than ever, the rate at which you will have to learn new skills in the workforce will be profoundly higher than even 20 or 30 years ago…

@Michael22155492 @TeslaBoomerMama So the thesis here is that we're worried that TSLA might run by $50 by tomorrow and that's why Bradford put out a video describing nuances of a merger with SpaceX? 🤨

Bradford and I both are trying to seek the truth, and that can be very uncomfortable at times. We check our priors and evaluate what we got wrong. But we also look at what was said vs. delivered by the companies we invest in, Tesla being by far the biggest. It’s not stirring the pot for the hell of it, I actually think posting these kind of hard truths has a negative effect on our reach and Tesla “street cred”. But I also think it’s the right thing to do.
AleXandra Merz 🇺🇲@TeslaBoomerMama

Bradford is not an innocent commentator Always remember that he worked as an options trader and now runs a financial analysis firm When you hear nothing for months and then someone stirs the pot, think twice.

I love this. This is precisely the culture that I am focused on cultivating… people learning and helping each other learn any gaps they may have in their knowledge. Learning as you execute is the most impactful methodology, without a doubt. Ash, please remember, you can email me any time with questions and I will respond direct. It would be both morally and professionally improper for me to disclose proprietary intel… information for which members of Vivé have paid with their hard earned money, and to which they are therefore justly entitled. I hope you understand what I’m saying here. John did a great job with his overview - well done.
