Artists are the worst direct-to-consumer brands on the internet. → They know nothing about their fans → Drive attention to other people's platforms → Must compete to reach their own followers every single time No other business would operate this way. It's madness. And listen – it’s not their fault. Platforms hoard data, partners don’t share their incentives & the industry has been focused on the wrong games. This needs to change. We need to stop outsourcing the fan relationship to others & get serious about building sustainable artist businesses that aren't completely reliant on 3rd parties who will move off of you in a second. The future is direct-to-fan. And artists should be the ultimate direct-to-FAN businesses. They should know their fans. They should have control. They should build their own world, not someone else's. It's time to go direct.
