Still it rebuilds shaders or the whole IL2CPP GameAssembly completely for no reason and still it does not have much added exciting features. It is a better engine than 2022.3 but not much better at least in aspectswe care about.

We upgraded a project from Unity 2022.3 to 6.3 and Unity is still the slow , cluncky thing it was before. The builds are as slow. compiling IL2CPP takes 1.5 hours on the machien that compiles UE5 source in 40 mins. It is hard to go back to Unity.

@RayBenefield I did not mean you specifically meant it for silencing, I thought you are in the camp of rwrongly assuming all people in a community are/should be of roughly the same political opinions due to twitter/X climate. sorry. and no don't needto take anything off my chest :)

I didn't talk about shared political values. I said stay educated and informed. Exposure to accurate information enables critical thinking. Community builds empathy. There's no silencing or purification happening in my statement. Quite the opposite. I shared my own feelings and am offering comfort to those who share those feelings. Your statements seem very defensive like I've personally attached your political values and it seems you lean towards isolationism over community or at least have decided that this community is not in the realm of reality for you. Is there something you'd like to get off your chest?

Dear UEFN community. Please don't just turn a blind eye to politics. Stay informed and educated at the very least. It's easy to stay in your bubble and say "not my problem". What's happening here in the US is horrific and my heart goes out to others who are scared. 💖💖💖

@RayBenefield I'm sure there are people on the right, on the left, people who care about different things in FN community, programing community, Unreal community ... assuming we all share political values if not a tool for enforcement is just an incorrect assumption. IMHO

@RayBenefield Well to me that is beyond the point. Of course as humans many share most things like struggles and dreams. The assumption that something as big as FN creator "community" shares values like that is either wrong or it is used in some cases to push for purification/silencing.

@lemire Both this book and war and peace and also some dostoevsky helps one grow up! They are good stories full of these sorts of commentary which applies to us here and now as well as them and there back then.

This passage by Tolstoy could be considered prescient about would happen to Russia years later. « Stephan Arkadyevich had not chosen his political opinions or his views; these political opinions and views had come to him of themselves, just as he did not choose the shapes of his hat and coat but simply took that they were in style. » (Tolstoy, Anna Karenina)

I just released my video about the engine (and game) I've been working on. The engine is based on dynamic SDFs, and the video describes how it works and what it makes possible. Link in the reply! This is my first YouTube video and it took forever - please repost!

@jdegoes In what way Grok is trash? For programming related searches and questions, It almost always is better than GPT and sometimes better than claude's free version.

In the ongoing AI wars, Anthropic has pulled ahead. Opus 4.5 beats ChatGPT 5.2 at every task I've tried. It's not just the model: Claude just has a better driver (chain-of-thought, quality control, tool usage). Grok, meanwhile, is trash, even if the underlying model is ok.

@spion @lemire @rfleury @cmuratori I wish you at least did a chat GPT of differences between haskell's type system and Rust's before writing a reply. Haskell's focuses on totally different things and the language uses a GC. The type system can express mathematical expressions which help in correctness checking.

@lemire @rfleury @cmuratori people said this about haskell too. Still incorrect but at least they argued, the type system helps you write correct code. What's the argument for Rust?

@rfleury @cmuratori The man runs OpenAI and he has a million followers. He must understand something you don't. Be more humble Ryan. When Rust code compiles, it is correct. Obviously.

@TynanSylvester protein or make a pill or something else. This is why IMHO that AI is good at writing simpler code but not good at making more high level technical decisions at least yet.

@TynanSylvester for example maybe combining an LLM with genetic algorithm and testing the ideas it produces or adding logic based understanding/testing. Easier to be done when making AI for finding proteins. maybe harder for subjective evaluations like what protein to find or should I find a

Why do people say AI "just" predicts the next token as though this is somehow simpler than thinking? If you can predict what someone will say, you must be tracing the same processes they used to generate those words. You must recreate their thought process. You must think.

So much this. I hate workflows where people config 100 things on their computer for non-important or useless or very small improvements and insist that everybody should do that. we have more important work to do and it is not fun at atll to config things
Casey Muratori@cmuratori

Generally speaking, my goals with distributions tend to be about getting something that needs the minimal amount of handholding. Bazzite has been scoring very high on the mark, where our desktops "just work" for their intended purpose without me needing to sysadmin the machine.

@ForrestTheWoods I mostly use perforce but used both git and SVN and even team foundation server for a while and tried a few ones when i was obsessed by finding best tools. people defend what they know and don't like to try new things if it requires effort.

It’s incredibly frustrating how much worse Git is than Sapling. Git is so so so bad. And we’ve now raised an entire generation of devs who the only VCS tool they have ever used in Git and so they think it’s actually good 😭

@kiaran_ritchie The free version was similar to Grok (free) , sometimes a bit better, sometiems a bit worse . I should give the paid one a try.

This is no exaggeration. Claude 4.5 crossed a threshold. Every programmer needs to familiarize themselves. This is no longer an argument and soon it won't be optional.
Andrej Karpathy@karpathy

@ibab It’s very good. People who aren’t keeping up even over the last 30 days already have a deprecated world view on this topic.
