Economic conditions in early 2026 reflect a slower pace of growth, with hiring slowing across both the U.S. and Kentucky, alongside persistent inflation and rising energy costs. Conflict in the Middle East has led to increases in oil, diesel, and gasoline prices, raising costs for businesses and consumers, with broader economic impacts expected in the coming months. Even with these challenges, businesses are largely holding steady. Employers are taking a cautious approach—slowing hiring while maintaining their workforce—as the economy continues to grow at a moderate pace. Get a detailed breakdown of how Kentucky’s economy is doing in the Kentucky Chamber’s State of the Economy Report at kychamber.com/economy.

“This is a significant and much-needed win for Kentucky businesses and the American economy,” said Watts. “The Kentucky Chamber has been a strong opponent of tariffs because of the impact they have on employers, families, and overall economic momentum. Kentucky is home to manufacturing, bourbon, and agriculture, and these sectors have been among the hardest hit. Today’s decision is an important step toward putting our economy back on a path to growth.”

This measure reflects 18 months of work by more than 40 stakeholders who studied Kentucky’s child care challenges and reached consensus on practical solutions through the Kentucky Collaborative on Child Care. The Chamber appreciates bill sponsor Rep. Samara Heavrin, chair of the House Families and Children Committee, for her leadership on this legislation. Show your support at OpportunityStartsHere.com
