What a privilege it is to be a part of the 15th Annual @RxSummit! I launched this national summit with @uniteky in 2012 to combat America's deadly drug epidemic. We have been working each year to break down the silos and unite federal leaders, stakeholders and community advocates across the country in a life-saving movement. The Rx Summit catapults Operation UNITE's holistic approach onto the national stage, emphasizing joint efforts between law enforcement, treatment and education. Last year, we celebrated a 30% reduction in overdose death rates. We are celebrating even better news this year with the National Vital Statistics System's latest report that opioid overdose deaths have dropped nearly 50% since 2023! This movement is working, and President Trump's work to secure our borders has made a monumental impact. I closed my keynote remarks tonight by presenting this year’s Beacon of Hope Award to my friend and colleague across the aisle, @RepStenyHoyer (D-MD). He has been a champion on legislation that funds the important life-saving work in this battle, including his support for High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas, evidence-based treatment and prevention programs, recovery to workforce programs, and affordable treatment services for substance use disorder. Thank you, Rep. Hoyer, for being a loyal partner in this battle. Tomorrow, we’ll host a bipartisan Congressional Panel to discuss current policy and legislation that we’re working on at the federal level to help make key changes as we continue our work together on Capitol Hill. Stay tuned!
