@AlanJacob192906 The BCCI has been made to pay both direct & indirect taxes on their IPL earnings among other things after their tax free status have been revoked since 2007-2008. They have paid nearly 18500 crores in direct taxes albeit under protest as per their last annual financial statement

Today Pakistan play their 1000th ODI. Shahid Afridi played 393 of them during his career that spanned 1996 to 2015.

@ComputerGuy__ That exactly isn't the case with some of the territories buying rights for the 2030 Football WC edition as well like it's in UK,China. So real value for the 2026 WC could be less than US $ 3 billion. So per match value drops by 25-30 % from your $ 41 million a match figures.

@myhegemony Virat wasn't impressive in T20/IPL in his early years which is why he never made it to the Indian team for the 2009 & 2010 T20 WCs. His ODI successes propelled his white ball international career before his exploits erupted in T20 cricket by mid 2012.

This CCTV scene wasn't there in original Malayalam #Drishyam #AjayDevgn's hindi version had to solidify the alibi of that day further. It's only after this CCTV footage Gaitonde and #Tabu's characters are left helpless. Hats off to #NishikantKamat 🫡

@SAMTHEBESTEST_ Meera Deshmukh's intro in D1 was also good. Not sure Gaitonde being shown as Sub Inspector was good(other versions had character as constables) since SI generally won't do 'menial' tasks like visit for passport verification. Couldn't correct the '4 din baad' bit in preclimax.

@Demo1032333 @LalitKModi JioStar is looking at losses of at least 25700 crores INR in it's ICC & IPL rights deal only. With such 'benefactors' who are willing to loose such amount of money why wouldn't the BCCI want them?

@LalitKModi Why does the BCCI with all the money in the world not have its own broadcasting channel in fact? Maybe dealing directly with advertisers will be a tricky job but atleast they can run the sport the way they want to.

It will happen one day. Sooner then later by all sports bodies globally. No broadcaster will be needed.
Krishna Anand@KrishnaAnand_

@LalitKModi Why is the BCCI so dependent on Jio Star? They should start a subscription service on Netflix or YouTube for PPV games. Buy a weekly pass or season pass. They’d earn 4x.

@Kr17Vamsi @R___tweetz Yuvraj was dropped after SA series(perhaps rightly so) & didn't play ODI matches for 3 years till early 2017. Similarly he was dropped after T20I WC in April 2014 only to make a comeback in Jan 2016 in T20I cricket. So how was he backed to the hilt then?

2015 Bangalore. AB de villiers was playing in his 100th test. I was in the crowd. He was given the loudest cheers that went on for minutes. Football should be the last sport to claim they respect opponents.

@bsdhanoa There is merit in the argument, cricket is a public good so why does BCCI, a private club gets to monetize it? Why are they exempt from taxes, they should be made to pay steep taxes.

@Akshit_Mahajann No harm in State Govts. chipping in with assistance for building stadiums. The new cricket stadium in Karnataka will replace the older one in Bengaluru. But the problem is states like Madhya Pradesh & Uttar Pradesh building 2 or more cricket stadiums out of public exchequer.

Cricket is barely played by 4-5 countries in terms of strong competition and high standards, india almost has 30 world class cricket stadiums instead the money should be spent on athletics and individual sports in which we lag behind even the tiny nations with 1-2 lac population.
Mufaddal Vohra@mufaddal_vohra

The Karnataka CM has laid the foundation stone near Anekal, Bengaluru for India's 2nd largest cricket stadium with 80,000 capacity.

@originalvicky Pakistan lost to Venkatesh Prasad's dibbly dobblies in 99 WC. Not sure the batting was that good in comparison to Australia & South Africa. Inzamam,Anwar & the bowlers/all rounders carried the team if Iam not mistaken at the WC.

@AjmalKarumannil It was Jio/Viacom18 which managed JioCinema then in 2022. But with Jiostar merger value of all broadcast rights are supposed to fall. Let's see how big a 'disruptor' Zee will be in the sports segment in the coming months.

@AjmalKarumannil Everyone in Jiostar & FIFA know their numbers. So speculating or imagining numbers is not quite needed. If Star Sports really saw value in the FIFA 26 asset they would have gone for that. China a much bigger country only went for $ 60 M for 2 WC events. Let's see what Zee brings

@Asit19882018 Just imagine, India already has around 75 -85 million World Cup viewers based on modest estimates. Out of that, if even 10 million people are willing to pay ₹399 for the tournament digitally, it can still become a profitable deal alongside advertisement-based linear broadcasting
