I presided over the @LawSocietyofKe 2026 Annual General Meeting in Machakos earlier today. At the end of the meeting, I witnessed the swearing in of @ckanjama and the 2026-2028 Council, and handed over the instruments of the presidency to the 52nd President. It has been an honour serving the Law Society of Kenya and the Country. I wish Senior Counsel and his team well in their tour of service.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission warmly welcomes the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of resolution A/80/L.48, led by the Republic of #Ghana, declaring the trafficking of enslaved Africans and racialized chattel enslavement of Africans as the gravest crime against humanity. The AUC Chairperson @ymahmoudali commends H.E. the President of the Republic of Ghana for this important leadership, which reflects Africa’s longstanding and principled call for the full recognition of the slave trade and its enduring consequences. “This historic decision marks an important step toward truth, justice, and healing, and reinforces the urgent need to address the enduring legacy of slavery,” the Chairperson stated. The AUC Chairperson reiterated the African Union’s call for comprehensive acknowledgment of the historical and contemporary impacts of slavery, including the pursuit of reparative justice, in line with #Agenda2063 and relevant Assembly decisions. Today, the @UN General Assembly has adopted a landmark Resolution : A/80/L.48 entitled “Declaration of the Trafficking of Enslaved Africans and Racialised Chattel Enslavement of Africans as the Gravest Crime Against Humanity.” This Resolution marks a significant milestone in global discussions about historical injustices and human rights. The landslide vote is as follows: ➡️ 123 in favor of the Resolution, ➡️ 52 Abstentions and ➡️ 03 Against. Tabled by the #AfricanGroupUN and championed by Ghana 🇬🇭, this landmark Declaration affirms that the transatlantic slave trade and racialised chattel enslavement were crimes against humanity whose consequences endure to this day. Addressing the General Assembly, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana 🇬🇭 , called on the world to stand on the right side of history and today, the world answered. I held consultations with the @IEBCKenya Chairperson and Commissioners today. I reminded them of their Oath of Office. The stability of this nation rests, in no small part, on their shoulders. Electoral justice is not a slogan, it is a constitutional obligation. Having personally visited 22 counties in the past 6 weeks, I conveyed my firsthand observations on voter registration. The youth driving the #TukoKadi campaign deserve commendation. But IEBC must urgently deploy more clerks ahead of the March 30th Mass Registration exercise. The Diaspora are Kenya's leading foreign exchange earners and a lifeline for countless families. To exclude them from the electoral process is indefensible. That must change. Transparency is not optional. Opacity breeds mistrust, misinformation and disinformation. The IEBC must engage openly on key operational matters. I called for the immediate termination of the Smartmatic contract. It was illegally extended in November in violation of procurement rules and the firm carries a deeply troubling record of corruption and election manipulation across multiple countries. Finally, the credibility of our elections will be defined by the integrity of those who administer them. The vacant CEO position must be filled by a person of unimpeachable character and professional standing. Kenya is watching. #UkatibaCaravan
