Spooky things happening in our math class today! My kiddos were tasked with the job of sharing scary math mistakes to kick off their Halloween weekend! 🎃 #YorkLearns

Antiracist schools hire antiracist people. So, what is a job interview question to assess applicants' antiracism understandings/actions? Looking for questions folks can't easily fake their way through. If you all share some ideas, we'll compile them and share the list.

This #AsianHeritageMonth , may we raise our voices, stand together to #FaceRace, and fight racism in all its forms, wherever it exists – today and every day, into a more inclusive future. Watch this incredible video from @melissagrelo & @LaineyGossip.

Some "I wonder" moments that came after: "what should I spend my money on" "At what age should we start investing?" "how much of our money should we save when we are older?" Great financial lit convos happening with 13 y/o that not all adults even engage in. #yorklearns (2/2)

In today's Math Class we spoke about "Good Debt vs Bad Debt." We also welcomed a guest speaker who shared his experiences & perspective on Financial Independence/Management and how my middle school kiddos can start working towards the habits/mindset needed to build wealth! (1/2)

@mcbride_bryce Good point Bryce! And WHO these systems (like banks) were built to benefit with lending debt and having access to their financial services. Lots of layers to this conversation., including a political one. I am just excited that we're having it in Grade 8! 🙂

@AskMissSelva This can and should become political as well, not just personal. When banks can issue money as debt with a few keystrokes, but those to whom such money is lent are expected to pay such debts back with money they have had to earn by producing goods and services others pay for...

In today's math class, I introduced that we will be exploring financial literacy concepts next week, including DEBT. One student wrote in the chat "Yuck, I don't want debt when I'm older!" I shared with them a quick glimpse of my evolving relationship with "debt," (1/2)

especially as a child of an immigrant and first-gen Canadian. I feel like that can be a whole lesson of its own - upbringing, culture, generational impact on debt. Maybe that's the route we take in our discussion! Love math lessons like these! (2/2) #YorkLearns

@QueensCTE My favourite first day of school must have been Grade 8! I was super excited to have @MikeGTdot as my teacher and knew it'd be a great year to end off my elementary school career - and it was! 😊🙏🏽

Couldn’t be more proud of @BeMore27 forget the basketball part, which the world now knows he’s an all star but that interview showed the world who you are as a person. S/O to his dad Roger for mentoring and raising a special young man. #blackfathers ✊🏾
