Wisconsin Assembly Democrats

Today is a good day. Assembly Democrats have fought so hard to expand access to care for new moms and babies, and I was proud to join Governor Evers as the postpartum Medicaid expansion bill was signed into law!

Access to healthcare is essential, especially for women recovering from giving birth and caring for newborns. As someone who is about to become a mom, I am proud to have co-authored Postpartum Medicaid Expansion, fought for its passage, and voted for it on the Assembly floor.

Investing in kids and lowering property taxes are two of our top priorities. We can’t finish the session without making these needed investments. This is a responsible and common sense proposal and we should get it done.

When the state pays its fair share, property taxes stay down. It's that simple. I’m joining my colleagues in introducing a proposal to provide property tax relief while funding our public schools.

I introduced a bill with @SenSpreitzer to address rising utility rates tied to data centers. While Legislative Republicans fast-tracked a bill that missed the mark, we must do more to protect our environment and ensure ratepayers aren’t left footing the bill.

This morning, I attended a press conference for the introduction of LRB-6040, which would create a BadgerCare Public Option. (1/3)

Access to clean drinking water is essential, and PFAS contamination remains a serious challenge across Wisconsin. I was grateful to see bipartisan votes for legislation on PFAS remediation in the Assembly.

As these bills move to the State Senate, I’m optimistic we’ll be able to deliver for Wisconsinites and ensure everyone has access to clean water. Keep contacting your senators to make sure this bill becomes law this year.

This Public Schools Week, I’m thinking about the students, teachers, and families our public schools serve every single day. I promise I will always fight for strong public schools, invest in our classrooms, and stand up for the educators and kids who make our communities thrive.

DACA recipients ("Dreamers") are people who came to the United States as kids, grew up here, and need equal same access to jobs and services. Dreamers don’t have the same access to occupational licenses as other people in Wisconsin -- AB 759 will help change that. (1/2)

Our work is far from finished, and my Democratic colleagues and I are up to the challenge. These wins are just the start — a better future is on the horizon.

Looking back on last week’s floor session, I am immensely proud of all that we did to pass Gail’s Law and postpartum medicaid expansion. Years of persistent advocacy resulted in securing these wins for women and families.

During Public Schools Week, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to serve as Ranking Democrat on the Assembly Education Committee. This session, we’ve seen too many bills that feel disconnected from what educators, parents, and students are actually asking for.

Assembly Democrats were unified, determined, and frankly, relentless. I am so proud to have been part of this moment and so relieved that we will soon see this critical bill signed into law.

Moms and their families, advocates across the state, and Legislative Democrats fought for postpartum Medicaid expansion for years. This week, Assembly Democrats refused to take no for an answer and effectively stopped legislative business to force a vote on this bill.

I want to take a moment to recognize the countless people who fought for and won postpartum Medicaid expansion in Wisconsin. This win means that women in our state will keep their healthcare for a full year rather than 60 days after giving birth. This win will save lives.

Proud to vote in support of postpartum Medicaid expansion and breast cancer screening, which is also known as Gail’s Law. Thank you to every advocate, organizer, and community member who spoke up, shared their stories, and pushed these bills across the finish line. The will of the people is the law of the land!
