@exQUIZitely Modern Games are a whole different species of game. Video games died after the PS2 era when every AAA game became a $100,000,000 make or break production waiting to fail from over bloat and unrealistic expectations.

I sometimes think back to how gaming started for me. While my favorite system was the C64, what truly kicked everything off was the Atari 2600. Obviously, modern games are light-years ahead in terms of graphics, sound, gameplay, and complexity. Yet nothing has ever topped that magical feeling of popping in a cartridge and playing games like Pitfall, H.E.R.O., Pole Position, or Space Invaders. As a kid, you experience the world very differently. Your mind isn’t cluttered with the constant junk and overstimulation that today’s generation is exposed to. We had a TV with only three channels and a VCR with just a handful of movies. Life mostly happened outside, meaning school, friends, sports, books, comics, and simply being outside. That made the little black-and-brown “magic box” (the Atari 2600) feel quite special. I wonder if today’s kids will still remember their first Roblox experience 40 years from now the same way we remember our first gaming days in the 80s. I highly doubt it. How did it start for you?

Doom for the #Atari #Jaguar 1994 was the first official console port The engine was programmed by John Carmack of id Software using the NEXTSTEP platform Despite its limitations, the port became the technical and design foundation for nearly all subsequent console ports #90sGames

This demo is how I started retrocoding in 2024, and I'm still proud of all the hand-optimized m68k assembly I created. This is a VoxelSpace implementation running on a stock 8MHz 68000, 1MB RAM, 16 color Atari STe. I hope @TheKyleFreeman approves :)

We keep arguing about pay to play in America, which has nothing to do with the real football, we prefer physical, strong , fast players, instead of finding technical creative players that can win a game in a 10x10 space, then you can surround them w the phy, stro, fast players

I don’t understand why people are scared to say ‘start over completely’ to US Soccer. What are we holding onto? It’s mediocre at best and well below the standards for the resources we have. Like Man City being relegated and keeping status quo. We have a top 5 budget and top 5 population. Probably #1 in facilities and other touch points. Out in round of 16 in embarrassing fashion.
