@TowpathTim @MikeyCycling None of them were causing any risk?! You’re a bloody idiot. There is tons of evidence on distracted driving.

@MikeyCycling Your smugness for ruining lives is astounding. None of them were causing any risk to anyone. Hope nobody recognises and crushes you but can't say it wouldn't be deserved. I'm a cyclist and was exclusively a cyclist for many years in London by the way.

@RantyHighwayman Wow! I couldn’t work out where that was till I googled “Marconi Wing”. That whole section of Strand below Aldwych is now pedestrianised?!

@iambrianjones When I was first working at the Guardian, I walked my bike across there without realising what they were. Quite refreshing, as I was thankfully still in my Lycras!

@jayrayner1 He doesn’t say it was his first ever dive. It was his first diving trip. I’m sure I did far more on my first trip, having done my PADI here, before going to Egypt.

Apart from the all round tone deafness, There’s a detail here. Not a dive expert, but. Johnson says he went down 33 metres on his first ever dive. That qualifies as a deep dive which I understand takes a while to work up to. Could he… could he possibly… be lying?
alan rusbridger@arusbridger

‘Will this do?” the late Auberon Waugh would ask as he filed his columns. I imagine the response of Mail editors to Johnson’s first two efforts is - ‘only just’

@Phubuntu @JonCollett @ProfBrianCox 1) that’s still a majority, I suggest you read up on what the term means 2) any decision taken with QM would still be vetoable - if we still had a veto. Sadly, Brexit shit the bed on that.

Brexit is now, in a majority of voters minds, linked with high interest rates, trade friction, travel friction and general incompetence. The reality may be more complex, but that doesn’t matter - it’s about perception, and the perception is that Brexit is not only a failure but a liability. And there is more pain to come. This is why in my view, coupled with demographic change, it is inevitable that we will soon begin the process of rejoining the single market and customs union no matter what Labour or the Conservatives say at the next election. This irresistible pressure will probably split the Conservative Party, which is ironic because Cameron’s only strategic aim in calling the referendum in the first place was to placate fringe elements of the Party. @Mike_Fabricant The Soviet Union? So you are claiming expertise based on visits 30+ years ago? Do shut up Michael. You and your pals are all tainted by Russian donations anyway. Why should we trust a word you say!?

@Loftybigwood @alan_ridgley Well. One gets tired of “professional drivers” complaining about losing their livelihoods for repeated shit driving, like speeding is just something unfortunate that happens to everyone, like getting crapped on by a pigeon, and not something they should actively choose not to do.

@JonCollett @ProfBrianCox Nah. My main account got suspended for telling someone not to be a cunt. I’m amazed this one has any. Not sure why you would think a low follower count is a decent counter argument against what I said either.

@MartinSLewis The idea is to take ‘spare’ money out of the economy. Let’s examine: 1) Wage increases < inflation so many people already have less money. 2) People still with ‘spare’ cash will only save if saving rates > inflation. Otherwise they’re better off buying things. This won’t work.

It is important that while some agreements have been made for borrowers, we can't forget that improving savings rates is beneficial to many AND crucially is anti-inflationary
Martin Lewis@MartinSLewis

The facts banks are only fully passing rate rises on to borrowers not savers is counterproductive and profiteering. Encouraging saving, takes money out of the economy to help inflation too. Govt should be pushing hard to ensure banks don't just increase margins

@JonCollett @ProfBrianCox (I don’t think you know what undemocratic means. MEPs?) At the very least, when we were in it, we could ensure it didn’t become a federation of states because we had a veto. If you’re right, we are still going to rejoin, and Brexit may well have created the very thing you fear.

@ProfBrianCox Rather ignores the federalist and undemocratic nature of the EU and the British people's desire to take back control. But then I suppose you would ignore that!

@simes1701 @RantyHighwayman Anyway. Muted now. Hopefully you won’t be an ignorant unpleasant person all your life, and hopefully this conversation has made you a touch less proud of being one - but I doubt it.

@simes1701 @RantyHighwayman I suspect that you take a perverse pride in being rude and implying that others are less worthy of consideration. And thus I conclude that the people you deride as “the rude left” are in fact better people than you are.

Why have news outlets been saying all day that 70% of leavers would vote leave again. It was based on Question Time Leave audience in Clacton, not proper polling. BBC audience was asked whether Brexit was the right thing to do: 70% still agreed 20% would vote differently 10% were unsure Professional polling: 52.6% think UK was wrong to leave. Of that number, 69% of 16 - 44 yrs think UK was wrong to leave v 27% of 65+ trueandfairparty.uk/time_to_pull_t… @VoteTrueAndFair @LBC @PaulBrandITV
