@JonahDispatch Agree, but I wish the hypocrisy as it relates to the 2nd amendment would be called out. How are we able to ban things like cannons and machine guns because the founders didn’t envision them, but not ban foreigners flying here to give birth. No way, they envisioned that either.

My warm take on birthright citizenship: Wholly defensible to be against it as policy and wholly reasonable to want to reform it in some way. Also intellectually defensible to say that the 14th amendment is being misinterpreted. Doesn't mean I agree, but I don't think it's crazy either. But even if you win that argument, you still need to deal with century+ of precedent and statutory language that codifies it and has created massive reliance interests. I consider it an open question whether Congress can repeal or modify birthright citizenship. I think it is absolutely nuts and dangerous to think a president can repeal it through executive order, and defending the E.O. because you agree with the underlying policy is itself indefensible. That's it. That's my take.

@RPGuy16 @JonahDispatch And if the meaning of the 14th is clear, how do you feel about a pres trying to change that meaning by eo when every decent American knows that the constitution can only be changed by amendment? In my view, it is such an unconstitutional act that cries out for impeachment.

@JonahDispatch I don’t think there’s any reasonable argument that the 14th amendment is being misinterpreted, and I’m against unlimited birthright citizenship. Let’s leave twisted constitutional interpretations to the leftists.

@martytantum @JonahDispatch @charlescwcooke This is correct, and it’s something that every high school student in the US should know. And for a president to try and change this process embedded deeply into the fabric of the country by executive order is an affront to the constitution and is impeachable.

@RilsRislan @JonahDispatch Go to law school and then talk to me about this. Congress cannot change the clear meaning of the constitution by legislation.

@JonahDispatch I think at its simplest, congress may be able to statutorily define "subject to the jurisdiction therein" to mean "lawfully residing in the country", then the court can decide whether such a thing would violate the intent of the amendment.

@JonahDispatch You are wrong. The history, traditional and suicidal interpretation, and the very language of the 14th amendment are crystal clear and indisputable. If you want to change it, you have to amend the constitution. To think otherwise is inAmerican. Trump‘s EO is impeachable.

@nicksortor So write your congressman or governor and ask them to start the process for amending the constitution. Good luck.

@GorallNathan @NoahCRothman @jimgeraghty You seem to forget that Noah is entirely substance free. He’s trying to make a career out of gargling Trump’s balls anonymously. And it won’t work. Not withstanding his protest to the contrary, he is a Trumper. And no one will forget it.

@NoahCRothman @jimgeraghty That you're not shocked by how out of it Trump sounds = you being a hypocrite, again. That speech was a ridiculous mess delivered by a dementia patient.

As everyone is focused on the SCOTUS hearing on @POTUS Executive Order ending Birthright Citizenship, I can’t help but wonder: Why hasn’t Congress passed a LAW ending birthright citizenship? We have a majority.

President Trump’s address correctly laid out the importance of Operation Epic Fury to protect our national security and eliminate the ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons capability of Iran. The evil regime of Iran is the largest state sponsor of terror in the world with blood of Americans on their hands. The President was correct in highlighting American energy dominance and encouraging our allies to purchase American energy while also stepping up to help secure the Strait of Hormuz. In order to protect American economic security and energy security today and for future generations, we must protect our national security.

@NoahCRothman Holy crap do you ever need an editor. He started a war that he is now losing, and now he’s walking away from it. He is humiliating himself and the United States. He has made us weaker and poorer. Go get yourself a copy of strunk and white.

Trump is correct to presume that Iran’s “toll booth” strategy is unsustainable and will collapse quickly (for a variety of reasons). But as today’s flurry of statements indicates, failing to prove the concept that relatively free navigation had been restored to the strait would set precedents we’d soon come to regret as well as foreclose on any claim to have secured an unambiguous victory. nationalreview.com/the-morning-jo…
