Sigh. Been talking about this dah lama. OKU are second class citizens by force of policy & law. Our CRPD reservations hampers the domestication of Disability Rights in MY. Registering for the OKU card formalises the 2nd class citizen status of OKU. @hannahyeoh @NancyShukri

Nak tambah sikit. This also affects OKU, in different ways. Travel will be difficult for wheelchairs users, and OKU mental face barriers to passport renewals. I know of at least 1 person (a fellow advocate) who was arbitrarily denied passport renewal.

Passport privilege is very real -- some scholars will have issues obtaining visas (either on time or even access to one). Some may not even have passports due to costs or legal issues. Some will not be able to enter the country for whatever reason. Hybrid can accommodate them.

Besides the repeal of Sec. 309, which still needs to go through Dewan Negara, this is the only bright spot. The previous Sec. 305 & 306 also had "abetment", but bullying that led to suicides was never prosecuted under either. This will change that. twitter.com/mindakami/stat…

Bittersweet. Amendments to the Mental Health Act and Penal Code have been passed by Dewan Rakyat, but as they were initially presented. Yes, it's a win, but also not. We will be releasing a statement soon.

Our recommendations revolve around 3 issues: - Abetment is too wide, cyberbullying needs to be addressed (brought up by YB @Kelvinyii88 during the S.309 debate, and affirmed by YB @ramkarpal yesterday) - The lack of oversight & reporting mechanisms. - Stigmatising language. 2/3
