Air Canada has gone 43 (!) years without a fatal incident. My entire life up to this point has been lived in a country where the flag carrier never got a single person killed in a crash. The record is a totem to what serious people can accomplish. So naturally, Mark Carney is screaming at them to instead focus on nonsense.
Harrison Faulkner@Harry__Faulkner

PM Mark Carney on Air Canada CEO Michael Rousseau delivering a video address only in English: "I'm very disappointed, as others are, rightly so, in this unilingual message of the CEO...lack of judgement and a lack of compassion."

Investigators of the runway crash at LaGuardia Airport have revealed the fire truck involved didn't have the equipment that would trigger a warning to alert ATC that it was on a collision course with a passenger plane. @GioBenitez reports. abcnews.link/FPC3Ckv

Sir, if you’re going to call yourself a reporter than please act like one. The theory may not irritate you but clearly the practice does. Get your facts right. Sir. Air Canada has topped the list of Official Languages Act complaints since 1970. 📊 The receipts: • 2,680 complaints in ONE incident (CEO spoke English-only in Montréal, 2021) • 276 complaints in 2022–23 — triple their decade average • Still #1 most-complained-about federally regulated institution in 2023–24 • Fined $21K for English-only seatbelts & exit signs • Courts. Audits. 6 Commissioners. 55 years. And yet — here we are. 🤦

An Air Canada plane crashes, resulting in the deaths of two pilots. Over on Radio-Canada, the "conservative" on the panel is having a fit that the Air Canada CEO didn't speak French in his video and demands his resignation over it. Someone should let these people on the panel know that the victims in this tragedy were the pilots and the injured passengers, not the French language.

@Breaking911 Conflicting info and unclear responsibilities? Two pilots are dead—bureaucratic confusion isn’t an excuse, it’s negligence.

@Mikeggibbs The TSB which is Canadian will investigate this as well, which is standard practice given that it involved a Canadian registered aircraft

I don't trust any reports coming out of the US government, even from the Transportation Safety Board, as long as Donald Trump and JD Vance are in charge. Period. Canada should demand access to what we need to conduct our own independent investigation. #AirCanada #LGA

@DimitrisSoudas The question is not just about this sad incident, but rather why doesn't he speak French, living in Montreal, CEO of the national airline. It's not that difficult to learn. Either select someone who does speak French or he should learn it.

Sir, We understand that the French language seems to irritate you, as though it were an inconvenience rather than a foundational element of this country. But the facts remain. One of the pilots was a Quebecer, a francophone. His family and loved ones deserved to hear a message in French. Out of respect. Out of dignity. Out of basic humanity. And beyond that, there is the law. Air Canada is subject to the Official Languages Act. It is a law, sir. Not a recommendation. Not optional. An obligation. This does not diminish the tragedy or the suffering of the victims. It simply affirms that in Canada, respect for both official languages is not conditional, especially in moments of national grief. And if the message had been delivered only in French, you would be asking the same question. So let’s ask it honestly, both ways. Because respect cannot be one-sided.

The aircraft collision in NYC could have been easily avoided. We fact that we still route aircraft just with verbal communication is absurd. Routing could all be automated and even the piloting of the aircraft could be automated.

@nejsnave Ontario tenancy laws heavily favour the tenant. If a tenant refuses to pay rent the landlord has very little recourse.

This process is disgusting and favours the landlords so heavily. In Ontario, if your rent is ONE DAY LATE - ONE DAY - a landlord can file for eviction now. Thanks to Doug Ford. ***These are people's homes***. There are few things more psychologically traumatic than having your shelter threatened. No wonder Canadians are so miserable. 50% living paycheque to paycheque, way worse on benefits, with zero tolerance for late rent. Horrible. #onpoli

50 minutes sitting on runway in Ottawa after we landed. No news on how much longer. No real news about why the delay except “no available ground crew” Here’s an idea Ottawa airport. Stop contract flipping. Give people a real job with good wages. And fix this. #yow

The U.S. just deployed a weapon that was supposed to stay classified for another decade 🚨🚨🚨 THE US JUST DEPLOYED "SOFT KILL" ELECTRONIC WARFARE IN IRAN → NO BULLETS, NO BOMBS, TOTAL DESTRUCTION 🚨🚨🚨 America just revealed a capability most people didn't know existed. Electronic warfare systems mounted on Black Hawks that can shut down an ENTIRE battlefield without firing a single round. Process that. WHAT "SOFT KILL" DOES: → Shuts down ALL enemy communications instantly → Disables drones MID-AIR — they fall from the sky like dead birds → Directed energy BLINDS every sensor, radar, and targeting system in range → Collapses entire command networks in SECONDS → No gunfire. No explosions. Just silence.
