“𝐅a𝐫m𝐞r𝐬 𝐚r𝐞 𝐛e𝐜o𝐦i𝐧g d𝐚t𝐚 𝐬o𝐮r𝐜e𝐬, n𝐨t d𝐞c𝐢s𝐢o𝐧-𝐦a𝐤e𝐫s.” – D𝐚v𝐢d O𝐭i𝐞n𝐨 At the First Pan-African Convening on the Future of Biodigital Technologies in Food and Agriculture, held in Addis Ababa from 2–4 October 2025, smallholder farmers from across the continent spoke directly about how biodigital technologies are reshaping their lives and livelihoods. Among them was David Otieno, a smallholder farmer from Kenya and a member of the Kenyan Peasants League, part of La Via Campesina, who offered a grounded and uncompromising reflection from the perspective of those most affected. Mr. Sam Atandi before you throw stones at Uhuru Kenyatta to impress William Ruto, fix Alego Usonga. Your constituency is drowning in poverty while you grandstand on TV. Youth have no jobs. Farmers are stuck in subsistence because there’s no irrigation, no storage, no markets just middlemen eating first. Roads are broken, clinics are starving, schools are underfunded, and money that’s meant for the ground never reaches the ground. Yet you “Atandi ”were elected in Siaya but you work in Nairobi, live in Nairobi, shop in Nairobi, seek treatment in Nairobi, and only remember Alego Usonga when there’s a funeral or a camera. You don’t feel the dust of our roads. You don’t queue at our hospitals. You don’t hustle in our markets. You speak about the will of the people while living miles away from their reality. Stop the drama. Publish every shilling of NG-CDF. Show us where the projects are. Build irrigation, aggregation centres, cold storage and real roads. Link youth training to actual jobs not empty certificates. Fund SMEs properly not token handouts. Create oversight committees run by citizens, not your cronies. And to stupid voters from Alego Usonga: stop treating parties like religion and politicians like saints. Loyalty without delivery is slavery. Demand results. Demand presence. Demand honesty. Support leaders who build, not those who shout.
