The Royal Fathers of Awori Kingdom, The Executive Governor of Lagos State @jidesanwoolu , The Nigeria Police Force @PoliceNG, @LagosPoliceNG , and the Resilient Youths of Oto-Awori and Ijanikin. Today marks another year in my life. Ordinarily, this should be a day of gratitude and celebration. Instead, I find myself in a state of mourning. My heart is heavy, and my soul is weary. While I am miles away in the diaspora, my spirit resides in the soil of Oto-Awori, Ijanikin, and every inch of our ancestral land. The news of the violent clashes between the youths of Oto-Awori and Ijanikin—resulting in the shedding of blood and the tragic loss of life—is not just a crisis; it is a symptom of a deeper sickness. To my dear Awori Youths: I ask you plainly: Are we sick? How can brothers be at each other’s throats while our heritage is being auctioned off to the highest bidder? We are fighting over shops and night vigils while outsiders use laundered money to swallow our land. We are killing ourselves over "territory" while our political relevance is being systematically erased. We are destroying our own houses while fake products flood our markets and our traditional institutions are being undermined by those who do not value our crown. Every drop of Awori blood spilled by an Awori hand is a victory for those who want to see us displaced. The "enemy" is not the youth in the next street; the enemy is the poverty of vision that makes us think violence is a solution. To the Authorities and the Nigeria Police Force: The reports coming out of the Ijanikin Police Division are deeply troubling. Law enforcement is meant to be a shield, not a weapon of bias. When the state uses its power to oppress one side of a community dispute rather than mediating with justice, it breeds a monster that no one can control. I call for an immediate, impartial investigation into the conduct of the officers involved. Justice must not only be done; it must be seen to be done to restore the people's trust. To our Royal Fathers and Chiefs: Your children are bleeding. This is the time for the "Afin" (Palace) to be a place of refuge and resolution, not just ceremony. I appeal to our Obas to summon an emergency Council of Peace. We cannot be "accommodating" to outsiders to the point where we lose the ability to tolerate and love our own kin. My Birthday Wish & Call to Action: I do not want gifts today. I want a CEASEFIRE. If you are a youth and you feel the fire of battle in your veins, do not pick up a gun or a cutlass. Fight with your brain! Join the intellectual and ideological struggle to save Lagos State for its indigenous people. Redirect that energy into securing our future, not destroying our present. I invite every serious-minded Awori youth to channel their grievances through organized, strategic platforms where we fight for land rights, political representation, and economic empowerment: Lagos Indigenes Development Initiative (LIACO): forms.gle/LT3CT3ZD3eu9nu… Awori Development Union (ADUN): forms.gle/XNm29PMhRB2qDu… The internal war in Awori land must end today. We have too much to defend to be fighting ourselves. Let us choose diplomacy over death, and strategy over strife. May the souls of the departed find rest, and may peace return to the Kingdom of our fathers. Signed, Baba Awori

THE SACRED ANCESTRAL LAND OF AWORI & IJEBU IS NOT A STAGE FOR FOREIGN WARS! We, the original indigenes — the Awori and Ijebu — whose ancestors first settled, named and owned this land from time immemorial, we stand today on the soil watered by the blood, sweat and prayers of our forefathers. This is the territory guarded by Ogun — the mighty warrior of iron and justice, Oro — the sacred enforcer of our ancestral laws, and the spirits of all who built Lagos before any other group arrived. Together with our assimilated brothers — the Egun, Saro, Aguda and all others who have become one with the land — we, the true children of this soil, have our own serious indigenous issues to resolve. We are determined to take full charge of our fathers’ inheritance. The conflict between Iran, Israel and America has absolutely NOTHING to do with us. Their war is not our war. Their blood is not our blood. Therefore, NO ONE has the right to turn the sacred ancestral land of the Awori and Ijebu into a protest ground for foreign agendas. If you want to protest for Iran, Israel, America, Saudi Arabia or any other nation — go to their own land and protest there! If you cannot help us solve our own problems on our own ancestral land, then take your placards, your noise, your foreign flags and your protest OUT of the land of our Awori and Ijebu ancestors. This ground is holy. This ground is ours by blood and by right. This ground belongs to the children of those who first worshipped Ogun and Oro here. Respect the land of our forefathers… or leave it. Heartbreak in Our Homeland: Why Are Awori Voices Silenced in Apapa Appointments? @LagosAPC, @jidesanwoolu Picture this: Our cherished Awori ancestral land in Apapa, soaked in our history and sacrifices, now feels like it's slipping away. The partial list of appointments stings—naming an outsider, GILBRATAR NJOWUSI as SLG, the keeper of our community's deepest secrets, privy to every vital meeting. It breaks our hearts to see our talented, overqualified sons and daughters sidelined, jobless, their potential fading while non-indigenes take center stage on our own soil. What's gone wrong in our leadership that overlooks the very indigenes whose ancestral land is Lagos State. But hold on— we're still awaiting the full list, and changes can be made before it's too late. Lagos State indigenes stand ready to step up and help fill these roles with true passion and loyalty. If you need capable Awori recommendations, reach out to us—let's heal this wound together before it deepens. Our legacy deserves better; our people deserve hope. Signed: Baba Awori

Echoes of Ife: Awori's Timeless Roots in the Yoruba Heartland Imagine the ancient world of Yoruba origins, centered in the sacred city of Ile-Ife—the bustling seat of power for the vast Ife Empire, a sprawling land mass that stretched across what we now know as southwestern Nigeria. From this cradle, Oduduwa, the great progenitor, sent his eldest son Obagodo to found Igodomigodo in the east, sparking the Ogiso dynasty. This era saw a line of Ooni rulers in Ile-Ife, from Oduduwa through Ogun and up to Obalufon Alayemore, shaping a rich cultural tapestry. During this time, in the circa 11th century, Prince Ogunfunminire—a descendant in Ogun's lineage—left Ile-Ife for the coastal areas. His purpose was clear: to infuse and create a new identity and royal line among the people he met. He became their leader, and together they formed the Awori Identity, direct heirs of Oduduwa. Awori lands were an integral part of the Ife Empire, tied solely to its heart in Ile-Ife—no ancient links to other emerging kingdoms. It wasn't until later, around circa 1170-1180 AD, that another prince from Ile-Ife, Oranmiyan, reached the troubled Igodomigodo. He renamed it Ile-Ibinu (Land of Anger) and started the Oba dynasty, which lasted until Oba Ewedo changed the name to Benin in 1255 AD. This shift marked Benin's distinct identity, but Awori's story had already been written centuries earlier, rooted deeply in the Ife Empire. Ancient tales confirm these ties through geography. For instance, Osodin Agbonei's account describes journeys from Benin back to Ile-Ife for royal burials, like that of Oba Adolo's head. The route wound through places like Ekiadolor-Ulo, Igueben, Iguebazuwa, and Uren, then a three-day trek through forests to Eke, Ilesa, and finally the holy city—paths traveled on foot, linking back to the empire's core. A mid-14th century map of the Ife Empire vividly illustrates this expanse: arrows radiate from Ile-Ife, showing cultural and political influence flowing to coastal Awori in the west, and eastward to Edo and Benin. Principal urban centers like Owo, Oyo-Ile, and Ijebu-Ode dot the landscape, with Awori marked near the Atlantic Ocean as a key part of this unified realm. Our worlds only crossed paths much later, thanks to outsiders. Portuguese explorers arrived in 1472, opening trade routes that connected Benin to Awori shores through commerce—and sadly, the slave trade that grew in the late 15th century. Without this European arrival, starting with Moorish exchanges in 1444 and driven by figures like Henry the Navigator, Awori people would have had no knowledge of Benin. Our histories ran parallel, unconnected except through the shared Ife heritage. History stands firm: Awori's identity, born in the circa 11th-century embrace of the Ife Empire with Ile-Ife as its throne, predates Benin's formation. We are eternal branches of that ancient tree, unchallenged and pure in our Yoruba legacy. Copyright Notice ©2026 Baba Awori. All rights reserved.
