I am currently reading my brother’s monograph. Tosin & I go way back to his days as a young lecturer at Akungba. His love for Nigerian music, particularly Hip-Hop, shows in this book. Full of history, theory and personal knowledge, he tells a 50-year-long story of a music that was first laughed at with such care.

Honored in Yorubaland as “one who repairs the world,” Jesse Jackson’s life bridged civil rights, pan-Africanism, empire, and contradiction—leaving behind a legacy as expansive as it was imperfect. africasacountry.com/2026/02/ayatese

I still think it’s wild that Yinka Ayefele did not pay tribute to Harry Belafonte. Or maybe it’s just me

Lists are tough things to make so s/o to the listmakers. In my opinion, no Nigerian love songs list is complete without Tiwa Savage and Duncan Mighty's Lova Lova AND "Inside of You" by Darey and Asa. 50 Greatest Nigerian Love Songs of All Time, by @AOT2 open.substack.com/pub/thenaijawa…

Remember for the entirety of the British Empire, Britain's working class lived in squalor and abject poverty, trodden on by the rich. Don't yearn for an era where you yourself would've been eating poo in the gutter.

Very niche journo request that I hope reaches the right audience: I am on the hunt for old fans of Weird MC / the ‘Weirdos’ back when they used to tour Nigerian university campuses in the late 1980s Please ask your parents 😭 #afrobeats #Nigerianmusic #Nigerianhistory
