Fact-check: Mamdani is not ending enforcement against scofflaw e-bike riders. And NYPD has provided zero *evidence* that criminal summonses are necessary to rein in their misbehavior. The actual stats make it clear that cars & trucks are the #1 source of carnage on our streets.

The Daily News says the speeding driver sent two deliverymen flying off their e-bikes — killing one & critically injuring the other. nydailynews.com/2026/03/19/car… Yet The Post wants you to believe delivery workers on e-bikes are the #1 threat to pedestrians. nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/03/20/fac…

An important point: cyclists are still subject to penalties for breaking traffic rules - but the bizarre inequality that treated a bicyclist more harshly than a driver of a two-ton SUV for the same offense has ended.
David Cruz@DCruzNews

INBOX: @NYCMayor says he's going to end criminal enforcement of low-level cyclists and e-bike rider infractions. NYPD will instead issue civil summonses.

A final thought on #WorldBaseballClassic: It'd probably be better quality of play and for USA's chances if played mid-season; more guys willing to participate, everybody in good form, etc But as a fan, nothing beats getting to watch that brand of baseball in March. What a blast

According to NYC DOT data released in early 2026, there were just 6 child traffic deaths citywide in 2025—down sharply from 16 in 2024—and total fatalities hit a record low of 205. Detailed public breakdowns for school zones specifically, or those solely from speeding, aren't available in the annual summaries. Speeding is a leading cause overall, but 24/7 school zone cameras have cut injuries/fatalities by ~14% in monitored spots. The new 15 mph limits target further prevention where kids are most vulnerable.

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani
We're implementing the largest expansion of Sammy’s Law in city history: lowering speed limits to 15 MPH at every eligible school by the end of our first term. And we’re not waiting to get started. This year, we’re lowering speed limits at 800 additional locations to 15 MPH, bringing the citywide total for School Slow Zones to nearly 1,300 by the close of 2026. New York City’s streets should be the safest in the world - especially for kids - and City Hall is using every tool at our disposal to make that a reality as quickly as possible.

A quite brilliant essay on AI, the law, and the future of the republic. An upshot: If the US govt can go to any company, demand any contract language, and reserve the right to destroy your company if you have qualms, there is no such thing as private property rights in America.

On Valentine’s Day 36 years ago, at the request of Carl Sagan, NASA turned Voyager 1's camera back toward home for one last look. From 3.7 billion miles away, it captured this: a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. Here is how Carl Sagan beautifully described it: “Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor, and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every 'superstar,' every 'supreme leader,' every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there — on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.”
