So state has forcefully APPOINTED 3 lawyers to represent Dr kizza Besigye and all have a record of losing every case they touch on. But that's not my concern, my concern is and I need lawyers to help me here. Can Dr kizza Besigye refuse those lawyers? And if he does, what happens next?

So he’d rather remain in prison until only those two lawyers are available? That’s difficult to defend. Erias Lukwago wasn’t arrested because he was Besigye’s lead counsel and Martha Karua’s entry was a matter for the state’s immigration authorities. If one lawyer is unavailable and another can’t enter the country why not appoint another advocate and let the trial proceed? If your lawyer were arrested on unrelated charges or became unavailable would you refuse to hire another? That’s courtroom drama not a legal strategy.

A criminal trial should not commence until the state fulfills its pre-trial disclosure obligations in compliance with the Brady Rule. The trial judge should grant reasonable opportunity for the accused to review pre-trial materials as a safeguard of the right to a fair hearing.

State Prosecutors Assistant DPP Thomas Jatiko together with Chief State Attorney Richard Birivumbuka have finally served Dr Kizza Besigye and his co accused Obeid Lutale the evidence they intend to rely on to try them on treason charges.

Dr Besigye is back in court. Meanwhile, he declined to choose lawyers to represent him from the list the Regime provided late last evening.
