@clintwfischer @LouieDN im very leery of anything to do with life insurance. scummy companies with contracts written for them. very real possibility of paying more than the policy is worth if people live a long time
English

@LouieDN It's not the daughter raising a fuss... it's the disagreement of the spouses on fair vs. equal
Is the return on life insurance worth it just to leave an inheritance? Or should those premium dollars be spent invested off-farm to provide an inheritance for the off-farm kid?
English

Farm transition I'm helping with:
Husband has the hard & fast mentality that:
Son helps on the farm so he should get everything.
Wife takes the approach of "let's be equal/fair" regarding $$ value.
→ 2 kids; one Son and one Daughter
We're talking $15 million in land, equipment, & livestock going to the on-farm Son.
And $500,000 in retirement & $500,000 in life insurance going to the off-farm Daughter.
That $14 million imbalance is what the wife is concerned about.
There's a solution that may make both H & W satisfied:
1) Property into a trust
2) Machinery & livestock left to on-farm Son
3) Retirement & life insurance left to off-farm Daughter
4) Trust grants right of first refusal (ROFR) to rent & ROFR + option to buy land at a discount to on-farm Son.
Until both H & W pass away, all income goes to them.
When either H or W passes away, the other spouse gets all income.
When the last spouse passes away...
-Son gets the machinery & livestock
-Daughter gets the IRA & life insurance
-Both are beneficiaries of the land income, but Son has ROFR & option protections to keep the farm going
Instead of $15 million to Son and $1 million to Daughter, it's more evenly distributed with safeguards in place to keep the farm operation in the family & financially viable.
Without prior planning, exactly zero of this would happen.
In fact, the farm may be sold at auction to the highest bidder.
So, it begs the question...
Have you started tackling this succession, transition, estate issue?

@garrett_wolf3 @lazymbarranch what tires on your ram. i have nokians on my truck and wifes edge. both are tanks in the winter. farm trucks with all seasons can be scetchy
English

@lazymbarranch Drift, like real drifts, are when trucks start to be better.
99% of the time I’d take the Mazda 3 over my F350 welding truck with a ton of weight in the box. Cavalier would go through anything. Ram 1500 wasn’t great on winter roads.
English

Unpopular opinion, I’d take a front wheel drive car with winter tires over a pickup on winter roads any day.

We often hear people on social media saying people shouldn’t drive trucks. They don’t get it. I know that, but just the same, I chuckle in my head and picture something like this. This right here is why we drive trucks 👇🏻 #farmlife #trucks #notoptional

@LowBoomLowDrift @TaurusAgTeam my tote of active build didnt even come with any nipple this year. Just a 2” screw fitting. Cue cussing and having to find parts to convert to a 2” banjo nipple, so i could use the adapter built previously for their totes to use my 1” nipples on my chembine. Silly
English

@Stuthefarmer Treating it like sports. Live and die by their “party”. That mentality allows parties to drop promises to longstanding ridings with no fear of losing votes. Quebec has it right. They vote for whoever promises the most, and switch teams if they dont get it

@Mullin_95 Just bought 2013 model. No roof. 72” deck. 666 hours, really clean. 16.5k from a dealer serviced ready to go. Equivalent new model is around 35k

@EXNH3__guy @bigkev232 @Kotyjo Lets give Ukraine all our outdated planes and tanks. Then we can build new, better, fancy fucking tanks and planes. It will be trillions of dollars invested into American pockets

@steeves11 Thats a pretty good price, but im gonna hold out for more……..

@GrrlScientist @MarkusNash4 @ClimateHuman How do you figure that? More c02 absolutely will provide greater biomass growth. Nitrogen and phos are mostly brought up through the soil. Their availability has little to do with atmospheric c02
English

@MarkusNash4 @ClimateHuman uuumm, except not really! more CO2 means less nitrogen and phosphorus and that means increasingly sickly trees

@windypopfarm You running with std or hi-flow hydraulics? Nice machine

@BBK_Farms Many people complain that my voice goes in and out when talking, and the volume on my end is pathetic with any kind of background noise. I have to use headphones or speakerphone all the time. But yea, rural infrastructure is sucky.
