It lines up perfectly with the classic VC J-curve. Funds lose money early (capital deployment phase), then inflect after 7-10yr exits/IPOs. This Carta data (Q4'25) shows exactly that: only 8+yr vintages like '17 hit positive DPI at 90th percentile (~1.35x), while '21-'24 are still deep in the valley (DPI near 0x) waiting for those large exits. Recent IPO slowdown just stretches the curve.
