I'm concerned about this verdict and the overall trend of treating speech platforms as addictive — and therefore dangerous — products. Also, the verdict diminishes the responsibility parents have to raise healthy kids. For example: "Kaley says she began using YouTube at age 6 and Instagram at age 9 and told the jury she was on social media 'all day long' as a child." Where were the parents?

Ever walk through a nice but not insanely wealthy neighborhood and just intuitively know everyone who lives there is over 70 because there’s no way any normal person under the age of 50 could have ever afforded a house there?

Every major finding of the Mueller Report about Russia's effort to help Trump win in 2016 was echoed by the Senate Intelligence Committee Report released by Marco Rubio.

The only reason she voted against the legislation making strangulation a felony was that she objected to making it marginally easier to keep violent criminals in general off the streets. 😂
Alex Taliadoros@AlexCTaliadoros

@oucmecalling311 It's just a misleading hit job. Janeese supported both the Felony Strangulation and the Gun Endangerment provisions. She voted *for* these provisions in Secure DC and the Criminal Code Revision. She was just opposed to expanding pretrial detention — the main focus of the bill.

🚨🚨🚨 This year, a couple retiring at the normal retirement age (~67) could collect $100,000 in Social Security benefits. 💰💵 Our new Six Figure Limit would cap benefits at that level. A short 🧵

“The more popular white candidates should drop out to consolidate the field behind the Latina candidates who are less successful” is like a parody of Democrats and DEI. Sorry but we are leaving the identity-group entitlements behind in Woke 2. You have to earn the wins.

Today's cancellation of the Gov debate means another org should step up, host, invite media. Simple criteria: Anyone polling >10%, or who has been elected statewide, or held mayoralty of city >1m people. A foundation just pledged to cover costs. The "People's Debate."

We cannot normalize ICE inserting itself into our daily lives. Here is a reminder: ICE agents do not belong at airports. ICE agents do not belong at polling stations. ICE agents do not belong undermining our rights and hurting our communities.

I’m strongly in favor of public transit and want BART to succeed. That’s why I’m uncomfortable with the framing that the only option is new funding without drastic change. We're being asked to pay more at a time when concerns about cleanliness, safety, and cost discipline are still unresolved. It’s reasonable to ask how new funding will translate into measurable improvements on those fronts. I would support additional investment only if it's paired with clear accountability: specific performance targets and consequences if those targets aren’t met.
Kim-Mai Cutler@kimmaicutler

Oh wow, shutting down BART entirely is a possibility if the sales tax measure doesn't pass.

@asymmetricinfo My grandfather in Texas - a GP - said the same thing. Fucked up the whole system. Supposedly a big impetus for Ron Paul to jump into politics.

My father was a budget analyst in the NYC Health and Hospitals corporation in the late 1960s and he always said that Medicare ended what had been a very good deal for the city where public hospitals forced docs to provide charity care as the price of getting admitting privileges.
Chris Pope@CPopeHC

Before Medicare and Medicaid, the healthcare safety-net was mostly a matter of public hospitals. That was probably underrated as a method of targeting public aid at unmet needs, while minimizing crowd-out of private resources or moral hazard. nber.org/papers/w34976

When I worked at Macy's back in the 80's, people who worked there raised families on what they made. It was their career. I remember the guy in electronics retired after 30 years, and my boss in the cash office did the same. The guys who worked in the suit department did very well for themselves. Despite that, the store profited greatly every year, and we were given a beautiful Christmas party in appreciation. What changed in this country? When did it become nearly impossible to support oneself at a job that didn't require a degree or technical school?

@mattyglesias I "got it right" because I knew when Hillary collapsed at that 9/11 memorial, that her candidacy was over. I told all my friends at the time, and they told me I was an idiot. Was that a bad method?

When Trump won in 2016, most sensible people were surprised because he was down in the polls and "the candidate who is up in the polls will probably win" is a sound forecasting principle. But people who "got it right" (i.e., used bad methods) gained prestige as a result.
