Great to see both Palmate and Smooth #Newts are hanging-on in my mum's garden pond in Hampshire. The obvious tail-end filament, very webbed back feet and generally smaller size are good clues for the Palmates @froglifers @BNAscience @HantsIWWildlife

It's been a very good spring for Painted Lady butterflies, and looks like it will be a bumper summer too, as more and more arrive here on the Suffolk coast - this one feeding on Green Alkanet (8th May 2026) @BC_Suffolk @savebutterflies @BBCSpringwatch

Skylark nest tucked away in a tuft of grass. Hatching after 11 days incubate, both parents feed the chicks who leave the nest at about 10 days & before they're able to fly to hide in surrounding vegetation. By 20 days they're able to fly & at 4-5 wks independent of their parents
