@EcoTechBro @Himedanshi2199 They had a cachet with Hollywood liberals at the time. I don't think that was their main problem but it was a whole thing.

If NATO is gone, Argentina is definitely invading to retake the Falkland Islands. With Chagos, Starmer completely torched the deterrence Thatcher built with the last war. And Milei could easily take it. Britain can’t do anything. No ships. Now all of LATAM now recognizes Malvinas as Argentina’s. With them also becoming one of America’s most loyal ally, chances are high the U.S. stays out and lets it happen

The Platner-Piker stuff is linked insofar as both are products of social media-poisoned podbros and consultants trying to be kingmakers and hoisting one of their selfish and stunted friends into positions of power and influence in a party that is otherwise sickening of them.

@JewishWonk I was watching some Israeli podcasters who were trying to be like Joe Rogan and podcasting from an MMA gym and they were dumping a bucket of shit on Netanyahu. Kind of funny.

@bastetkitten @AGHamilton29 If the guy threatened to attack the dad and his kids then it's a different story in Florida. "776.012 Use or threatened use of force in defense of person."

A+ dad. Lowlife antisemite decided to randomly threaten a dad and two kids because they were Jewish. The dad rightly pulled out his gun and held him at gunpoint until the police got there and arrested the aggressor. Also will note this as a good example of why it’s good to live in a place like Florida. There are definitely some states/cities where the dad would have been the one arrested.

NEW: Muslim man arrested after calling a Jewish family “dirty people” at a Miami Beach park and then claiming he had First Amendment rights Ahmad Zeeshan, 32, reportedly asked, "Are you guys Jewish?" and after confirmation yelled, "Get the fk out of here, you fking dirty people." Zeeshan allegedly threatened to attack the father, who pulled a gun after feeling his and his children’s safety was at risk Both men called police Zeeshan said the father threatened him with a gun, while the father said Zeeshan was yelling anti-Semitic slurs

Another reminder that air supremacy is not achieved and parts of Iran remain a very hostile environment as I have been saying for weeks. This is just the reality of the situation, this is not some failure. It's not like you see in the movies folks!
Abd@blocksixtynine

SCANG Wild Weasels lugging JASSMs and Angry Kittens in support of Epic Fury. Once again circling back to just how quintessentially multirole the F-16 is. The best to ever do it. Even more ridiculous that a fighter can look this good carrying so much hurt on any given day.

Traveling or living anywhere on account of "dining" is deranged in 2026. The range, diversity, and quality of cuisine you have even in small emerging-market cities today is comparable to major world metropolises a century ago. The US got its first Thai restaurant in 1971!
Nikita Bier@nikitabier

All things considered, PA has the best dining in the world. Zero reservations necessary, even on a Friday night, for tier-1 food. Like you can walk into Daigo and eat sushi that was just flown in from Tsukiji fish market. The equivalent in NYC would require having 3 Resy bots and calling in favors from all over town to get seated at 5pm on a Tuesday.

@Ed_H_ivee @SandyofCthulhu The U.S. Army was more active-duty oriented back then. Post-Vietnam War reforms shifted more responsibilities into the Guard and Army Reserve. A lot of the logistics. Was Creighton Abrams's idea iirc.

@SandyofCthulhu The way I heard it, activate a national guard unit it's in the paper, maybe even front page. Draft someone, it might be in a small local paper, in the back. Johnson didn't want headlines!

And the “rich people don’t fight” thing in Vietnam was a specific policy of Johnson. He didn’t send in the National Guard because he thought those were the middle class, and would notice when their kids died. But the regular army (then) was poorer so who cared. You gotta hate Johnson.
arctotherium@arctotherium42

I think this is another example of how US discourse has been frozen in amber since the 60s; there is precisely one war in US history in which this characterization (very little upper class participation plus a draft) is approximately correct: Vietnam.

@Xenoimpulse He doesn't really care about the GOP in the short term or Rep. Scooter Bumblefuck's (R-NH) seat, he wants to arm America up to the gills for the long term. To be honest most Republican voters hate the Republican Party too.

@Miyhnea Also a desperate boredom and ennui. I ran into an Iranian girl in her twenties at a grocery store here in Texas the other week, she just got out and said there was a massacre. She walked around like she owned the place.

A good look into why they support the IR though. To them its this revolutionary rejection of the despised West system, as it was for Foucault back then, who longer believed in the revolutionary ability of the Brezhnev gerontocracy What is there without it? The death of the dream

A communist will obviously never recognize 1989 which ended 150+ of Socialist history and the entire world of the October coup in less than a single year To him these are coups and vile machinations not "people's movements"
Peter Wolf@peterawolf

The 21st century “doesn’t happen” without the 1989 revolutions, which 1979 influenced not at all. The influence of Khomeinism is overstated, and is wrongly credited with radical trends (esp. as articulated by Qutb and Maududi) emerging contemporaneously in the Sunni world.

@Xenoimpulse The No Kings protests are performative but I think that's what "works" because the algorithm rewards it. The plot twist is that leftists horrified at this plague of libs in frog costumes (made in China btw) are using the same platforms.

@NEVERLOGGINGOUT Vancouver, B.C. similar story I think. Lots of street prostitution, heroin, and gang violence. Bulk of the population were blue-collar laborers. Industrial. Extreme music also came from there. youtu.be/YCnPxvzsaz0?si…

Seattle in the 80s was the last frontier. It was this little satellite parody of the real world. But was surrounded on all sides with empty nothingness. It only modernized fairly recently. These kids are the last lineage of those that were the kinds of people who “headed west”

US needs a totally new air defense strategy. This also includes congressional advocacy, procurement, etc. Leadership has failed us here. Little movement for many years when it was clear the nature of the mission was morphing rapidly. Time for a new playbook. We are in no way ready for the Pacific.
