@xavibermudez @Durotrigesdig @ArchaeoAnni 2/2 Most of the complete dogs recovered this year were juveniles and neonates, so obviously the individuals themselves were tiny, but not necessarily ‘small type’ of dog- v hard to predict ‘adult size’ from these v young remains.

@xavibermudez @Durotrigesdig @ArchaeoAnni 1/2 Dogs a range of sizes from @Durotigesdig excavations over the years. Plenty of typical ‘medium’ sized Iron Age dogs and smaller ones. This year we had smallish, medium and at least 2 larger dogs (similar to german shepherd size -top end of size range for British Iron Age).

The very last find of #Durotriges24 is an Iron Age dog burial (the 16th this year) We can tell it's a male dog because of this #FindsFriday #baculum #Archaeology #Dorset

@Durotrigesdig Dave was the one who spotted there were at least five- he was carefully keeping track of all the skulls. We both think the final count will probably be more!

At the bottom of his Iron Age pit at #Durotriges24, Chris has found a dense *charnel* deposit of articulated and semi articulated animal bone Ellie's counted at least 5 sheep as well as horse and cow This is going to be tricky to record and excavate 😳

My daughter asked, “Do you ever have any regrets, Mom?” And while I know she was asking this question on a philosophical level, my mind immediately went to this puffin sweater I saw in Iceland. It’s been 3 years since I saw it in a shop there, & I still regret not buying it.

Amazing to watch this guillemot lay this morning. The one in the middle. An all too rare sight this year and no male present alongside is unsual. Odd to see a guillemot egg without any markings. #SuperSeabirdSunday @UK_CEH @TheSeabirdGroup @NatureScot
