@IllumiUtee @drewjay is there a more self-righteous fan base then Utah policing everything BYU?
English

@drewjay Oh thank god he was only speeding 20+ over the speed limit while possessing marijuana

Some interesting news out of Provo: Prosecutors have dropped the DUI charge against BYU basketball player Kennard Davis Jr., citiing lack of toxicology evidence:

@m3lonh3ad @drewjay I totally agree.
I haven’t signed an honor code for a team, crashed into someone while simultaneously breaking said honor code and the law, and played for that team a mere few days later.

@flapprdotnet They literally did the meme

@Samuraijrussell @LDS_Dems You keep using that quote way out of context and you know it. they want us to use the real name of the church and use Jesus' name...but the church knows we will always be known as mormons...so they are going to act accordingly. don't be obtuse.

@Samuraijrussell @LDS_Dems KFC used to be Kentucky fried chicken. They would sue because they are still associated with that term even though they discourage it
English

@LDS_Dems Except that the church itself discourages the use of nicknames such as “Mormon,” which the previous prophet said is a “major victory for Satan.”
Now, however, this nickname is part of its trademark?

@CorrickKnight @MattTestifies how many strawman's can you post in a single thread?
English

@MattTestifies Lots of people profit from the church. Lds authors, historians, podcasters, flds church, etc. Many of those things attack and bring away from it.
I agree the church had the right to sue. It's Corporation has to look out for its best interests. Which is what Christ was all about.
English

People are missing the point.
This is not about whether critics can talk. Of course they can.
It is about whether someone can build a brand that creates affiliation confusion with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while attacking it, and then act shocked when that gets challenged.
Criticism is one thing. Confusion is another. And names matter, especially when the name of Jesus Christ is the issue.

@huge_nibley I knew who he was and have heard all about his podcast. Frankly i'm surprised there are some out there that hadn't heard of him. I've never bothered to listen to his stuff or go to his website or anything though.

🚨 She nails it!
“You're telling me this stupid-ass, goofy-ass bill, the Stop Nick Shirley Act, which could truly only be done and thought of and sponsored and brought to the floor by an actual Karen swamp hag, you're telling me it's now advancing?
It's advanced in the legislature now. Interesting. So now I'm digging more into this and I'm seeing that this bill is heavily sponsored by CHIRLA. That NGO sounded very familiar to me.
Ding, ding, ding went off in my head, and I'm like, oh wait, that's the same organization that literally took my taxes and used them for paid protesting against ICE during this last summer when all the cop cars were burned on fire, everyone's looting shit, and this same NGO is supporting the bill that would stop Nick Shirley and other independent journalists for investigating those same NGOs.
Oh boys, do I win the game? Do I win the fraud game? I figured it out. Can I have my taxes back?
Holy shit. It's like they're screaming, we stole your taxes, look at me!”

Its virtue signaling yes, but its also falling for huge fallacies that those with a savior complex fall for.
Avery Daye@AveryDaye
It’s so easy to be a liberal. Everything sounds nice in theory… “open borders, people just want a better life” “Tax the rich so things are less expensive” “Free healthcare for all” …but it falls apart in practice. The liberal way of thinking is lazy and lacks a greater understanding of how things actually work. It’s about virtue signaling instead of working to problem solve for the best idea.
English

@JLCool3 @ColtonBruc3 @stackerco Ah yes, the old anyone who chooses to stay must be ignorant comment. That's just as bad as those who think people leave just because they want to sin
English

@ColtonBruc3 @stackerco PS The way you just offhandedly said “way too long to read,” is the entire point, Colton. You won’t ever read any of it. You remain willfully ignorant. You don’t want to know the truth because you’re happy in ignorance. I was that way for so many decades, to my utter shame.

The Mormon Stories lawsuit is just one more part of a pattern showing that when the Church is criticized, exposed, investigated, sued, or challenged … the Church almost never shows accountability and instead just attacks.
The Church is righteous and everyone else is the problem.
Mormon Stories uses the word “Mormon” (even though the church doesn’t use it anymore)? Well, the critic is the problem and is trying to ghost people into thinking they are the church.
John Dehlin speaks openly about faith crises? The apostate is the problem let’s excommunicate him and the years later let’s find a way to sue him.
The September Six raised hard questions?
The intellectuals and feminists were the problem, but let’s admit to the historical issues after anyway.
Sam Young pushed for safer bishop interviews with children?
The activist was the problem so let’s excommunicate him and then change the policy anyway.
The SEC found the Church used shell companies to hide the size of its investment portfolio?
The government and the lawyers were the problem.
Abuse victims and journalists expose failures in Church systems?
The victims, lawyers, and media are the problem.
Historians point out contradictions?
The historians are anti-Mormon.
Former members tell their stories?
They are bitter, deceived, lazy learners, or enemies of truth.
No matter what happens, the conclusion is already known. The Church cannot be wrong. It can only be misunderstood, persecuted, or attacked.
And what are members trained to do?
Defend it, but not because they have examined every issue, but because they have covenanted in the temple to give everything they have to the Church to build up the kingdom. To not speak ill of Church leaders. They have been taught that loyalty to the Church is loyalty to God.
So of course many members experience it as an attack on righteousness and God himself, so of course the Church almost never has accountability.
Dallin H Oaks even said the Church does not need to apologize. But of course it doesn’t when the members will defend every action it takes anyway (outside of a comedic post about a dude who said his wife is the breadwinner 😆)
I’m crashing out today, not just because of Mormon Stories but because of the long history of this institutional culture where the Church is always the victim, the critic is always the villain, and loyalty is more important than ethics, mortals or truth.
The Mormon Stories lawsuit just pushed me over the edge.

@pimomormon @LDS_Dems those people are using the name in good faith as in they think they are mormons and aren't using the same font, colors, and styles as the church trying to do damage
English

@LDS_Dems Should they also sue other branches of Mormonism for using the term Mormon?
English

@j_larson5 @UteOutsider Exactly. Even their best coach of all time Whittingham had a losing record to BYU when in the same conference with the same resources
English

🤣🤣🤣 You are doing exactly what you accuse them of doing.... BTW, during the Lavell era, BYU won 18-20 games for the longest stretch dominated by one school.
The history shows when both teams are on an equal field (playing in the same conference) BYU has dominated in the past, given that scenario, and looks like might be dominating in the future, given that scenario.
English

@UteOutsider um thats not why we use dates bro 🤦♂️ We use dates because thats what you clowns did for 10 years.
