Just because they showed a background prop for 3 episodes doesn't make it good writing.
Giving a character a brand new win button power in the penultimate episode is a shortcut that avoids actual character development.
It doesn't matter if they "planted" it. It still robs the series of a thematic conclusion. If the only way the Boys can win is by building a magic machine to give Kimiko a new ability, then the human struggle of the last five seasons was pointless.

It's honestly stupid. It all happoened "off camera" and to give a character a new ability to defeat the antagonist in the penultimate episode of the series is just terrible writing. It's called mechnical writing and it's a deus ex machina.
