@Ba9673 @BreitbartNews Market participants drive capitalism through purchase decisions and sale decisions. It’s not perfect but it’s the best system we’ve invented. Guard rails ok, safety/measurements etc, but government can’t play an active role. That’s when markets get corrupted

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: You can't earn a billion dollars. Ilana Glazer: That's right. AOC: You just can't earn that. Glazer: That's exactly correct. AOC: You can get market power. You can break rules. You can do all sorts of things. You can abuse labor laws. Glazer: Yup. AOC: You can pay people less than what they're worth. Glazer: Yup. AOC: But you can't earn that, right? Glazer: That's right. AOC: And so you have to create a myth that -- since you didn't earn that, you have to create a myth of earning it.

A runaway trolley is speeding toward five people tied to the tracks, but pulling the lever will divert it onto another track where one person is tied down — except that one person is a doctor carrying organs that would save six dying patients, one of whom is the scientist who will cure a pandemic caused by a virus engineered to stop an AI that became self-aware after being trained on simulations of moral dilemmas. You can instead push a large man off a bridge to stop the trolley, but the large man is your future self sent back in time after discovering that the five people on the tracks eventually become dictators who start a nuclear war that wipes out humanity — except one secretly adopts a child who grows up to prevent an asteroid from destroying Earth in 200 years. Meanwhile, the trolley company is unionized, the tracks run through private property, the organs were harvested from clones who may or may not have souls, the AI insists it is conscious and begs you not to kill anyone because suffering is immoral, a utilitarian philosopher says sacrificing one is mathematically correct, a deontologist says touching the lever is murder, a virtue ethicist asks what a good person would do, and a contractarian points out nobody signed up to be in trolley experiments in the first place. Complicating matters further, the trolley is powered by a kitten whose happiness level directly determines the stability of spacetime, and every second you hesitate creates a parallel universe where Reddit users argue about whether you made the wrong choice forever.

@Stellartonian @BreitbartNews The lines tend to blur with government and private sectors when you get to a certain point, and that's when you should get worried.

@Ba9673 @BreitbartNews You do realize that what you just wrote is at best nonsensical and vapid. On the bright side side you could be a speechwriter for Kamala.

@Ba9673 @BreitbartNews Size of government is the vulnerability. Full stop. Corporations can’t force you to buy their stuff. Only governments can compel you to give them money and power.

I started Oculus while I was living in a trailer working a minimum wage job. I spent years developing the technology and sold it less than 18 months after hiring my first employees. Most of the $2.3B purchase went to them on account of our shared ownership structure. Wish all you want, but you just aren't correct on this. Individual people create billions of dollars in value all the time.

The single largest form of theft in America is wage theft. $50 billion a year are stolen from American workers. If a billionaire amasses their wealth by underpaying their full-time workers so severely that they must rely on food assistance and government programs to survive, then no, that wealth was not earned by one individual - it was a wealth transfer subsidized by underpaid American workers and the public who get stuck with the bill for large corporations free-riding off our systems. The point is less about individual morality. It’s more about how our current economic reality of shattering inequality rewards screwing over workers and exploiting essential systems at scale. We’re talking monopoly power. Rent-seeking. Wage theft. Profiteering. Stock buybacks. Destabilizing housing markets. Companies using SNAP/EBT to underwrite their wages. Massive government subsidies or contracts to corporations following lobbying and dark money in politics with little to no oversight or accountability. Some people get enraged that I draw attention to this. That’s on them. Let them call me shrill, dumb, inexperienced, girly, uneducated - these folks will say anything to distract from or undercut the truth that working people are getting screwed, and giving people a fair shake means we must have a grown conversation about reigning in abuse of power.

AOC: “There’s a certain level of wealth and accumulation that is unearned. You can’t earn a billion dollars. You just can’t earn that. You can get market power, you can break rules, you can abuse labor laws, you can pay people less than what they’re worth, but you can’t earn that”
