@aaron_renn False. Surviving the purge is 100% office politics. You can get have the best numbers, go into the office everyday, work from 6 to 6, and have a necessary role. Won’t save you against the person who never shows up but has an internal advocate.

@shagbark_hick Once was passing through and stopped at the grocery store right off the state highway. Walked in and felt like a horror movie where the music stopped and everyone is staring at you. Very bizarre place

If anyone is looking for a place to practice their graffiti, Ogdensburg NY might be the place to do it. When I tell you people that O'burg is currently in a state akin to NYC in the 70's, I really am not kidding.

@TonerousHyus Amazing the group whose politics are “compassion” are having a meltdown that a commodity is not seeing hyper inflation. Shows were their heart is.

School budget formula is benefiting city districts seeing over mega million dollar increases including Newark receiving $60.57 M & Paterson $37 M The issue here is Townships that have been long gutted of funding are still getting the short end of the stick nj1015.com/new-jersey-sch…

@ReubenR80027912 Who knows how this will end up in 6 months but as a GWOT veteran at the very least this is answer to if we fought without two hand behind our back how would it have been.

Many reasons for this but chiefly: Trump’s reality distortion field that underpins everything he does Trump’s “art of the possible” is the reason for the ferocity of the RW civil war: 2028 will be the yr the iron cools & Rs will spend a decade trying to hold their gains 🧵
Rick von Hagn 🗽@r_vonhagn

Nobody has any clear vision for how long this war will last or how it will end, but there’s a thousand blue checks tripping over themselves to explain how we’ve already checked China and secured a thousand year chud reich. We’re experiencing a mass psychosis event.

@NathanJLeRoy @sanpellyenjoyer Good hypothesis something is broken. Your right networking is everything seen people hired for positions they are wildly under qualified for because they were referred to by an executive. Everyone plays politics so they push em through.

I agree. My hypothesis is ATS systems being inundated with AI slop resumes such that they simply can’t find the right candidates and miss real talent. Lots of people coming into interviews who can hardly form sentences or just drastically over exaggerating qualifications. I predict a trend toward in person networking and (ironically) tactics like: “just go in with a firm handshake and a smile”

Every 3-6 months I vigorously apply for new jobs (reach out to people on LinkedIn, tailor resume if needed, the whole shebang), hear nothing back, and then I remember it’s over for white collar work until something pisses me off at my job and I repeat the process

@BowTiedBull Very true, and the opposite is also true if you are is a position and you are not obviously on the “in”. You better look for something else; you are the first one cut performance be damned.

The accelerated hiring schedule of top finance firms amplifies the importance of undergrad pedigree. Conservatives massively underestimate the importance of college prestige. One of their weak spots, a key driver of their cultural & social irrelevance.
Illiquid Insights@IlliquidInsight

Finance recruiting is absurd: • IB hires for junior year internships during sophomore year • Private equity recruits IB analysts as soon as they hit the desk No wonder high finance has become full of robots.

We currently have a feedback loop going on here, that is the leading the US - Canadian relationship into some quite negative places. Trump disrespected Canadians - and they got very angry. Some long-standing dislikes for America came to surface, most particularly the MAGAs. 1/
Labrador Skeptic@SaysSimulation

Keep in mind that this Canadian mocking Red-state America is a "Conservative" Canadian. Former Premier of Alberta, and head of the United Conservative Party. Two things. First, we don't want Albertans voting in US elections, ever. Their "conservatives" are still far Left 1/

What is a mystery is where all the registered Democrats went from 2020. Part of their huge losses over the last several years is partially explained by R/independent gains. But that doesn’t explain all of them to me. Millions of voters just poof, gone.
Aaron Blake@AaronBlake

There is no mystery. Dems gained votes late in the process in virtually every race -- not just the close ones -- because mail-voting exploded in the pandemic and Democrats opened a huge advantage on it, in part because Trump discouraged it.

One more thing about this swing is that while the focus is on the presidential level, do not forget what this means for the house. This means around a 10 seat swing towards Rs in the house. That's on top of any Section 2 VRA decision that comes out this term from SCOTUS.

@SaysSimulation Americans have always had a fair greater option of Europe than Europe of America. Since you get arrested for speaking out against migration. Anti-Americanism is the only acceptable form of hatred in Europe.

Europe being Europe, that is when we will likely see the return of European wars. Nations will either become tough again, or they will be conquered. The conquering nations may also toss the migrants out of the nations they conquer. End result could be the tough Europe of old. 3/

Eventually, yes, and the details of Europe becoming masculine again will be fascinating. Can't happen with the current EU political structure & culture, imo. I think that there will be a fracturing of the EU into nation states again, likely starting with reimmigration 1/

@SaysSimulation I wouldn't be so sure. Yes they have pussified the men and told us for decades that nationalism is bad . But an angry white men army is something to feared tough times will create tough men again

@jaybsauceda Big difference in vibes from a 10 year high school reunion than 20. At 10 everyone is still optimistic trying to find themselves both professional and personally. At 20 it’s seems locked in stone you either made it or you didn’t.

I’d argue the age range of 35-45 is one of the most taxing mentally. - Your parents’ age begins to show - Friends groups splinters as some have kids, some don’t - Careers hit hiccups or strides - People you know die unexpectedly due to health issues - Friends develop substance or drinking issues I’ve noticed a general frustration in many people in this age range. They describe a pressure and overwhelming sense that things feel off or just harder. It’s not to say all of this will happen to someone in that era, but it’s when these things tend to play out.
