Left or right? I was recently reflecting that since getting involved in bitcoin, a lot of the debates I used to have no longer make sense to me. Here’s my attempt to capture why. You are a passenger on a ship. Your captain informs you "I have good news and bad news for you. Which would you like to hear first?" Being an pragmatist, you opt for the bad news. "The ship is sinking" he informs you "Well, what's the good news?" you venture "We have decided to give you the choice of which side of the ship you would like your cabin to be on" In a world where the ship of the global fiat economy is sinking fast - old concepts like "left" and "right" are meaningless. The question is not, “is the left or right side better”. The question is "Where's the #%^*^‰ liferaft - and how can I get as many of my friends and family onto it as possible!?" Of course, if you don't believe the ship is sinking, you'll stay on the ship and have debates with other passengers about which side of the ship is better. Lifeboats tend to be colored orange. There are more seats on the boat available. But they are starting to fill up: their supply is, after all, limited.

The Progressive Bitcoiner
I am a progressive, American, nonprofit director, vegan, forever student of sociology, man, husband, etc, and I will be the first one to tell you that #Bitcoin does not belong to any one ideology or group. #Bitcoin is for everyone. Being a #progressive, I talk and think about Bitcoin from that lens/vantage point, which some may resonate with and some may not, just as anyone else can speak on it from their worldview. Bitcoin is an open, decentralized ledger; money; a peer-to-peer electronic cash system. It is also permissionless, money for enemies. Bitcoin does not care. To say #Bitcoin IS progressive or #Bitcoin IS right wing, is just as silly as saying the internet is right wing or left wing. The same applies to saying #Bitcoin doesn’t “align” with progressive values. It’s absurd. Bitcoin is neutral money. It is software; code. Bitcoin doesn’t care. Now, where things get interesting is Bitcoin being used as a tool by people for a variety of reasons. Bitcoin does not inherently make someone or some cause good. But Bitcoin can be used for incredible good. For activists seeking censorship resistant money, or energy providers looking for incentives to build out renewable energy to electrify remote villages in Africa. For the worker looking to save their hard earn wages without it losing purchasing power over time, to the small business owner looking to more easily accept global, borderless payments. Good people doing good things with Bitcoin is what is good. It is an upgrade in every way to our current system of fiat and centrally controlled money. People using Bitcoin and holding their own private keys gives them incredible power not seen perhaps in the history of humanity. As more and more people from all walks of life learn about Bitcoin, and bring their diverse perspectives, ideologies, and backgrounds, Bitcoin will continue to look like a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Gone are the days of Bitcoin being an anarcho-capitalist pet-project. This global community will build on top of Bitcoin, create businesses, research collectives, write books, create films, podcasts, events, build communities, etc. Building toward a world where Bitcoin is baked into every aspect of our day-to-day lives, just as the internet is today. Call me crazy, but this game theory has been playing out for just 15 years now, and look where we already are. Remember, #Bitcoin is for everyone. If you don’t like that, sorry, the permissionless thing comes with the gig 🧡

Great points, Noah: @Noahpinion Bitcoin is a special-interest group. A lot of people's wealth now depends on mass adoption. "At this point, even most of the hardcore Bitcoin boosters realize that the only way that Bitcoin is going to be used as a payment system — outside of a few specialized applications like ransomware, drug markets, or illegal cross-border remittances — is if fiat currencies simply stop existing." Bitcoin’s value comes from people thinking of Bitcoin as an asset class.

Today will go down in histrory as a testament to the growing global adoption of #Bitcoin. Our first physical #Bitcoin meetup in Kampala, Uganda🇺🇬 was ELECTRIFYING! The room buzzed with the shared hope of a better future. We learned, laughed, and forged connections, all fueled by the shared dream of financial freedom. 1/n
